NOT a machine for beginners. Unless..
This is a very simple machine. Extremely easy to build kit. The dilemmas are; the product booklet that comes with the machine is vague at best, no where even remotely close to being thorough enough to get you up and running out of the box. If it wasn't for youtube....I'd still be under mire, to my brows. The machine doesn't come with enough detailed literature to help you tie all the loops together and make the mental connections needed to cut and create laser art. It leaves more questions than it answers and is gray in nature.Secondly, the software needed to actually run the machine doesn't come in the box. It's provided through a download which you will be sent after you purchase. It comes through amazon messaging service from the seller. However, even then, there isn't ample enough literature to help a beginner connect the dots mentally. Now, if you have used GRBL and Laser GRBL software before in a CNC class yet consider yourself to be a beginner or beginner to intermediate I should say, then you will probably do well in getting your own self setup. But if you have never played around with a CNC machine and/or the software associated with such...Forget it...YOU"LL be wading in under your head. It'll just make you want to throw it out in the wood shed and make kindling out of it later. So there you go...that's the straight talk!!!

View the Video of the assembly before doing anything.
The Document and assembly steps were lacking to say the least. The video they also supply solves this issue. This is an entry level woodworking CNC with laser for etching. Thinking anything other than that will disappoint. The supplied software is free ware and is only to control the laser or the cutting. It is not used to design or create. This is my biggest issue. But there are other software packages you can use, inkscape to create svg and export files as gcode with an extension installed. Trial package from vcarve is another. One that is simple to use and is free with limited usage is easel inventables, it is online. it lets you design and control all in one. Very easy to use and helps with the learning curve. Overall a good entry into CNC woodworking

Not for beginners.
I’ve had this for a few months now and I have a woodworking business. I’ve wasted valuable time trying to get this thing to work that I could of spent just carving things out by hand with a Dremel. Disappointed in the user friendly programming. It’s completely a do it yourself project. Get ready to watch hours of YouTube videos on setup and 5 different programs creating files to only be disappointed when you go to make your cut and it rips out the side of your wood leaving you with wasted product in the end.

Great little unit!
This item shipped extremely fast. The packaging was durable and well organized. It took me about 2 hours to assemble the unit, but I have prior experience constructing 3d printers and understand stepper motors. If you are mechanical at all, it will be up and running in no time. If you're not a mechanically inclined person, have a friend over to help. The Arduino clone was already flashed so basically just connect the offline controller or USB to your PC and you're up and running. Software included is good, but the laserGRBL is an older version. There's no cost to upgrade to the latest. The kit includes a good selection of starter bits for the router. I've run a few test cuts on some pine and everything was great. The 3 watt laser seems to work well. I used a photo of my dog, modified the image in Inkscape and loaded the .svg file directly to laserGRBL to produce the pine burn in the photo. The kit includes laser safety glasses, but being a little paranoid, I ordered some higher quality ones for the blue/violet nm wavelengths. Perfect kit for starting out with cnc!

Great little machine!
Regarding the laser, it is most critical to get the focus just right. This is a little tricky as the lens wobbles a bit, but a little trial and error produced great results. My first try with the router on wood worked as expected, but the wood I chose was too soft and didn’t cut as cleanly as I hoped. The choice of wood seeems to be critical. Mine had too much “hair” so the cut had a fuzzy edge.

laser defective but seller fixed the problem
When the unit arrived the laser was not working. I tried troubleshooting it but couldn't get it to burn. I contacted the seller. They were very responsive. There was a delay n replying due to the time change. After working through the problem with them it was decided that the laser was defective. They sent a new module. Once it arrived everything was good. It was a pain but the seller helped and fixed by the problem and stood by their product.
