6 Inch Deck Plate Kit, Deck Hatch with Cat Bag for Kayak Boat Fishing Rigging, Black

The Perception factory screw-in port bound up, was never easy to access, and the deck plate frame broke after using the kayak for a year. They wanted $40 for the OEM replacement. The GUANLANG 6 Inch Deck Plate Kit is a ready drop-in to the factory 6.5" eight screw port. Instead of the supplied hardware, I used Fastenere 10-24 x 1-1/2" Flat Head Stainless Phillips Machine Screws, with Bolt Dropper Stainless #10-24" X 3/16" Pronged T-Nuts. (The 1" or even the 3/4" screws would have been long enough, but the 1 1/2" screws were cheaper--go figure...) Machine screws with t-nuts allowed high torque to firmly anchor and seal the port without anything stripping or breaking. The supplied gasket worked well--there was no need for any additional silicon sealant. The gasket was not observed to extrude as others have reported, and was invisible in the final installation. The result looks factory new.The original port was never intended to be waterproof, and I won't expect this one to be. But this deck plate is sturdy, easy to access, and it makes the port useable again--for less than 1/2 the cost of the OEM replacement.

I installed this deck hatch on my 10 ft pelican kayak. The kit comes with an interior bag, gasket (for between the hatch and the hull), and the stainless screws needed for installation/mounting. Installation was simple: I first cut a 6.5" hole with a Dremel 678 circle cutter - which worked great - then drilled small pilot holes for the stainless screws and installed the hatch. I added some gasket maker under the screw heads for added water sealing - but that probably wasn't necessary. Overall, I'm very happy with the quality of the product as it appears to be more durable than I was expecting and the latching hardware works well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again should I decide to add another hatch in the future.

These are a great upgrade for a kayak. They do a good job of keeping stuff dry.

This is a nice product and seems to be well made. The hinged-lid is to me a better idea than all the other "screw-in" models out there since you don't have to worry about dropping it overboard or worse yet, losing it completely while on the water. I put two of these into the bow and aft gussets on my canoe for protection and storage of my more valuable items and they work great. The lids lock down very positively and have a good seal and the "ditty-bag" insert is a nice extra feature. The only real negative to me is that they don't offer these in multiple colors to match generic kayak and boat colors as I had to paint mine marine-white to reduce solar heat-gain, other than that they work quite well and install perfectly with the right tools.

The shipping was fast! This fit perfectly in my Sun Dolphin Aruba 12 ss that I picked up from a bargain store because none of them had this deck plate kit already in it. It went in tightly with a small amount of pressure applied. Because it was in pretty tight, I just ended up drilling the holes with the plate in, instead of marking the holes and taking it out to drill them. I then put in the screws. It was super easy!! Now I haven't taken it out on the water yet (we're still in winter here) but will definitely update if I have a leakage problem, although from the looks of it, I don't foresee it. Photos show measurements of inside and outside of kayak opening.

Have already installed on my Pelican SOT that didn't come with a hatch and field tested it. I keep all my valuables in there while out on the water and haven't noticed a drop and am very happy with the quality for the price !! ... Great hatch for a great deal !!

Easy install on pelican kayak: measure a circle, grab a dremel, cut and you're done.Didn't use the provided screws, used bolts to get it snug due to the kayak having a curved shape in that spot and loaded it with silicone.The interior bag is not waterproof fyi so if you have water on the bottom of your kayak it will leak through.

Decent product, easy install. Not waterproff at all. Noticed after storing my kayak for a week or so it started to smell musty. Water got in through the compartment and the inside of my sit on top kayak smelled quite a bit. Open the hatch out and let it air out and was fine . Considering it was very reasonable price I'll take that into account
