Illustration School: Let's Draw Magical Color Paperback – February 15, 2014

This book teaches you how to use 14 basic colors: red, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, black, pink, flesh, light blue, light green, grey, gold.There is a 2 page spread for each of the first 12 colors; one page is the "feelings" of the color with some sketches colored in with the color; the second page is some uncolored sketches that would benefit by being colored in with the color.Then there are 12 color "messages": cute, fun, active, tasty, cool, strong, mature, warm, cold, happy, flashy, gentle that are created by combining the above 14 colors.This is an excellent book to be given as a gift along with 14 quality pencils, pens, paints, or whatever media the gift-giver chooses. This book can stand alone without the other books in the series, but it does finish off the series nicely.I strongly recommend the entire series if possible. The books are small and fit inside a medium sized purse. The difficulty level is about age 8-12, but the books are not inappropriate for adults.

These books are beautiful works of art in themselves and you won't regret buying them :) I have recently acquired the whim to learn to doodle and hence bought three of Sachiko's books to help me learn doodling. Of all the drawing books I have bought, these are by far the cutest, the most informative & the most helpful. Sachiko's style is easy to follow and learn, and I keep referring to her books when I'm stuck or in need of ideas. In this book, she has explained the use & effect of various colors to achieve different kinds of moods in a drawing. Also, she inspires you to be brave in choosing your colors and try out color combinations that you never thought would work.

As someone who has never been able to pick a favorite color, this book just gets me! I immediately fell in love with Umoto's sweet and simple style as well as the actual content. This book is a must as it will talk you through some concepts such as colors' feelings and how to create palettes to evoke certain emotions. I've become a fan of Umoto overnight and have ordered the rest of her Illustration School books. I can't wait to dive in! (Also, this book is super useful for teaching coloring and basic color theory.)

Very Fun Book. I loved the simple illistrations

I love this series. I am no illustrator but have found these books show me a way to draw that is comfortable to me. The creatures, critters, flowers and such are adorable and fun to paint. These books showed me my drawings do not have to be perfect to be cute :) Also, they are small and easily fit into my bag with my travel watercolor set to take everywhere.

The book is cute,and has some drawing tips. It's just not what I thought it would be. Not the fault of the book, it was my misunderstanding of what I was buying.

This is the fourth Illustration School book that I've bought for my daughter who loves to draw. The book is informative, instructive and completely charming. It's a nice addition to the earlier books which focused on different types of things to draw (animals, people, plants). My daughter (age 12) actively uses these books for ideas while drawing.

I love these books! They are adorable and my two girls age 9 and 6 love trying to draw the stuff from it. We have all of them by this author and they are all fantastic.

Nice and easy guide to proper cartoon drawings for children who wish to develop their skills. My 8 and 10 year olds carry it around at all times, even their art teacher took the reference. That's about as good as it gets.
