Wonderful reference manual - but poorly bound book
If you’re purchasing the Dirr, then you’re likely a serious gardener looking for information as you elaborate upon your landscape… This is a wonderful manual - the landscape “bible”, some say - but the quality of its printing/binding leaves something to be desired. Pages are flimsy and can’t hold up to regular perusing - pages slipped away from the binding after only having had for one week. I am now in the process of trying to source another copy (possibly an older edition) that might be better made. *The Dirr manual is a must-have for understanding of larger garden specimens, and this review is only a reflection of the quality of production.

Most informative book on trees
This book was recommended by several of the top Arborist and Tree Specialists in my area. It is very informative and I must have book if work with trees.

Great information within!
This book is full of great information. The only concern I have is that the listings for each plant is in consistent. Some are listed concisely with the information broken into easily digestible blocks of information others are written in paragraph form. I guessing these are the differences between each contributing author and how they organize their data but one format is far easier to directly access the knowledge you are looking for.

A Kindle version would get five stars.
My wife has always been a big fan of the Dirr. That's what she and her sister both call it: "The Dirr." She loaned hers to someone one fateful day about 25 years ago and never saw it again. Not being in a horticultural field, she mourned the loss but never replaced it. So I got her one for her birthday. Now my son, a smaller person, is studying entomology and has to work through a bunch of hort and ag classes to get to the Masters-level bug classes. And the Dirr, as much as he likes it, is damned heavy. It's huge. He loves the book and the enormous array of info in it...but could we get a Kindle version, an eBook version? Then it wouldn't weigh any more than a flash drive. It would fit into his little netbook along with other convenient e-texts, and his back wouldn't be constantly compressed by 15+ pounds of huge college textbooks.Just a thought.

The book is fantastic..
The book is fantastic...it is extensive, very detailed and precise, the drawings are accurate and lovely. All in all, I'm very pleased with the book and am certain it will be very useful among my reference books. The bad things was that about the last fourth of the pages had a severe crease in them that made it hard to use for a long time. I put it under a large stack of books and used it from that weighted stack with much effort. It has straightened out a great deal, but is still not perfect. I needed it immediately or I would have refused to accept it, and returned it.

Dirr the Messiah Woody plans
Helps with my plant id class only problem is if you're planning on using it for school make sure you are getting the same volume that you're teacher has. Some differences can be with zones and heights other than that this is a great reference book, since Dirr is the Messiah of the Woody plants

Excellent content, but book is useless.
I am on my second copy within a month, content of the book is excellent but the quality of the book is atrocious. Absolutely useless. Binding of the book just doesn’t seem to want to stay together.

Thin paper, pages falling out on a new book.
Paper is very thin and a page has already fallen out after using it once. It's a shame for a ook that is meant to be used as a professional ressource. The content is of quality but not the physical book.
