Twelve Henry David Thoreau Bookmarks (Dover Bookmarks) Paperback – June 11, 2003

Beautiful Thick Glossy bookmarks with lovely forest, fields, and pond imagery. Birds, deer, Lilly pads, men plowing the fields. Worth the cost!

These are the first Dover bookmarks I have ordered and they are lovely ! They are sturdy card stock, with 12 different beautiful color illustrations with a glossy finish. The back of each features an excerpt from Thoreau's writings. I bought them for myself, but also I'd have something to tuck inside a letter or greeting card, but they would also make a fine addition when giving a book to a friend.I will certainly be buying more of them. Although they can be separated and given individually, a booklet would make a nice stocking stuffer for my bookworm grandson. Dover has bookmarks in many themes and for all ages and I know he will enjoy them.Oh yes ! These bookmarks arrived today -- exactly when promised !

Nice bookmarks. Thick quality. Did have to go around with a scissor after and cut off the perforation pieces left behind.

I find myself in disagreement with the reviewer who characterized the artwork on the Thoreau bookmarks as drab. I purchased an assortment of "books of bookmarks" by Dover for my book discussion group, but took only one of the Thoreau books to our dinner meeting-- and that was the one everyone wanted! The members loved the colors and the drawings, feeling them to be very natural in appearance. The bookmarks themselves are made of heavy stock but are easily removable from the booklet. The small perforations that are on one side when the bookmark is removed from the booklet can be trimmed off -- for slightly over $0.12 a bookmark I don't think you can go wrong with this purchase.

Here are even more delightful bookmarks from the Dover series and they are very nice indeed. They are about 2"x6", printed on heavy coated stock, and neatly and easily separate from the perforated pages. Each bookmark has an excerpt from one of Thoreau's writings and an appropriate and colorful illustration on the opposite side. Unfortunately, the artist's name is missing so we'll never know who did the illustrations.These will make a nice little additional gift when you give a book to someone and will even make a nice, handy little gift for yourself

Ok. My 3rd review of this type of bookmark selection. Bookmarks are pretty, BUT perforated. Might not be problem for you, but I use bookmarks inside bday cards, get-well and gift. You can see from outside that it IS pretty. Problem is that after you remove one or two, you can actually TELL they are perforated. So again, I have two choices: 1. Separate each one very carefully and laminate them, or 2. Send the entire little book of 12 as gift. I guess if I were asked, I would not purchase them again, as I know that I can find something just as pretty - with no perforation!

This is a set of twelve booksmarks, each bearing an exerpt from Henry David Thoreau's work on the back and a spectacularly beautiful painting by Dorthea Barlowe's watercolor illustrations.I read a lot of anthologies (short story collections) so I use a lot of bookmarks, usually having several anthologies going at any given time. With these booksmarks the price is right (only $1.50 and free shipping if you're a Prime member), they're beautiful, and having a little stack by your bedside is perfect. At this price, there are lots of other choices that are also beautiful and cheap, you'll never lose your place or bend a page again. Enjoy!
