Exact formulas for making hundreds of blends for skin and hair care, relief of stress and pre-menstrual syndrome, baby oils and powders, cellulite reduction, massage oils, and more. "Its interesting to just page through the alphabetical section and learn the purported advantages of oils, from allspice (Pimenta officinalis) to ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata)."-- Booklist . Review: QUICK READ, BIG PRINT, EASY FORMULAS. - Very easy read and big print. It first gives you some history on the use of essential oils, that archaeological evidence indicates that many ancient civilizations were skilled in extracting plant oils for medicinal remedies. I like that the formulas were simple. It had formulas for sprays, the bath, massage, sore muscles, etc. I was a little disappointed that there was none for face creams, though it did have oils to combine for skin problems. It has formulas for body powder that are very simple. I just like that you don't have to wonder what blends well and what essential oils are used for uplifting compared to calming, etc. For example, it states for foot baths, formulas for relaxing versus for rejuvenating, It is not a big book, but a good one to have for easy reference when you just want to whip up something without having to read through a bunch of stuff. In the back of the book, it has each essential oil listed with the scent and the uses. If you want an in depth look for each oil, the chemical composition, and colorful pictures, there are plenty of other books that will do that. Review: A good recipe book...it is what it says it is!! - I have been in the Aromatherapy field for less than two years and have many books on the reasons why essential oils are used for certain things. This book is very nice because it gives us some basic recipes for many different daily uses of essential oils. I like that it gives us a choice of more than one recipe as not all recipes work for everyone and not everyone likes the same scents. To me this book is great for every day uses of essential oils. When I address therapeutic, emotional, and mental issues I'll refer to more appropriate books. In the beginning, the authors give due diligence to the history, sense of smell, massage and techniques, reflexology, safety, extraction processes, and something I really liked seeing - "Substitutions for oils". We don't always have some oils on hand due to their expensiveness. In the back the authors added some essential oil information such as what each oil is used for and does as well as an essential oil properties list. All this is short and to the point with the main body of the book just as the authors promised....recipes! I don't necessarily recommend this book for beginners as beginners need to know in depth information on essential oils before putting together some serious recipes. However, it is a great book for those already working with essential oils and wanting to add to their current recipe book.

Interesting Recipes but lacking in information
I'm always open to learning more about Aromatherapy. I have a basic knowledge already so this book is pretty easy for my to jump into but if I were looking at it from a beginner's point of view I would be a little confused. The book offers tons of formulas, 500 to be exact. But some of the info is a little lacking. For example, it briefly goes over Carrier oils. It lists a few but it doesn't really go over which carrier oils are good for certain reasons. While this book is a bit simple, it does contain some recipes that I haven't seen in some other books. For example, there's several recipes for killing and removing Lice. That's something that I haven't seen before. While I haven't tried the recipe myself and don't actually know if they work. Its still something that's interesting to see. There's also recipes for Massage Oils, Mist Sprays, and Mouthwash. Then there are items that I find really interesting such as Laundry Scents, Gardening Oils, Furniture Polish, etc. I think that as an addition this would be great for continuing to build up your knowledge of Aromatherapy. Overall, I would recommend this book purely for the unique recipes but not if your a beginner looking for starting info. I received this product complimentary in exchange for a honest review.

Recipes for Beginners
I'm super excited about this book. I've been into essential oils for several months and have been quite impressed with them so far. This book is extremely comprehensive, including recipes for hair and body care, baby, massage, and even household uses like carpet freshener (which I cannot wait to try). Most of the recipes are for beginners like myself, which I appreciate. The book is super straight-forward. There are no frills and no extra "fluff." I am happy to add this book to my collection of essential oil literature. * Product was received at no charge in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions are my own.

Very basic, verbage and instructions makes this seem like an elementary school book, but must not be used that way-
I felt the history section on oils was unnecessary as well as the stress on sports competition, and the emphasis on nursing which tries to influence others to reproduce unnecessarily and wrongly as there is already way too many persons and many who suffer under third world conditions. This book can be helpful for giving suggestions for recipes and especially ratios when inventing essential oil recipes. I recommend adding a pinch of citric acid to blends with distilled water. The carpet freshener suggestion seemed wasteful as the wonderful oils are vacuumed up. It would seem better to use baking soda and then vacuum, then spray carpet with essential oil blend as an added room freshener. When using essential oils only use oils that no solvent has been used in the manufacturing process. Since sage is listed as reducing perspiration it should be added to the deodorant recipes, and this was an obvious omission. There are no instructions on how to distill oils from plants and twigs at home so I find I will have to purchase an additional book to get this information as I also want to distill my own oils. Also advice is needed on how to preserve aloe gel after harvesting. I already found the lip balm works better with my carrier oil suggestion, extra virgin olive oil, which feels more like a store bought gloss or balm. I did find the basic ratios helpful and it has a nice looking cover so I keep it in one of my bathrooms out.-Julie Sands

Great book to have for a go to for what to use essential oils for.
So many more ways to use aromatherapy than I thought. With that, more than once recipe for the same thing. I like that there are multiple recipes involved for if I'm out of an oil or not keen on a certain scent, I have more than one option. Throughout the book you get breakdowns and how to's without reading an portion and than questioning what you've just read. For each formula that is stated in the book, you have a short paragraph to point out some good FYIs so you're aware of it prior to making the formula. Some of them I never would have thought of so it was a nice little insert. And like I said, it's right there at the beginning of the formula so there is no missing it. Upon having the formulas throughout the book, in the back, you have the breakdown of the essential oils and their core uses so you can branch off into your own. I did receive this at a discounted rate for my unbiased review. My opinion was not influenced by the discount that I received.

Dated but works for me
This is an old book and many fancier titles have since been published in the aromatherapy space. But still this book holds its place in my aromatherapy library because its formulas are simple, straightforward and turnout well. Itโs like one of your momโs old recipe books that despite showing wear is still on the kitchen shelf because the recipes have stood the test of time.

Recipes For Oils
This a great book for those who believe and know a little about essential oils and want to blend oils for different things. It's easy to read, find formulas for what you're looking for, and has a lot of basic information. It doesn't contain everything you need to know about oils and is best suitable like a recipe book. I wish it had a bit more but I would recommend it to my friends, in fact, one of my fiends saw mine and loved it too, so I had to get another.

Great aromatherapy recipe book, great purchase.
Just received this book, after reading some of the inaccurate reviews above I have to point out some discrepancies... Yes this book does list substitution oils to use, yes it does list usage and properties of most of the oils in the recipes. After reading this this book cover to cover, I have to wonder if the negative reviewers have actually read all of the pages in this book at all. I would recommend this book, very easy, straightforward recipes.
