I Am Going to Clone Myself Then Kill the Clone and Eat It Paperback – May 1, 2012

This book was a shattered collection of interesting thoughts arranged for your reading pleasure. No plot or any of that stuff to get in the way, just straight weirdness from Sam Pink, and I really enjoyed reading it, as I have enjoyed other books by him.Reading this book is like sitting on a cold metal stoop in the middle of some unknown city in winter and trying to put together a broken mirror with bare hands so you can see yourself again because you forgot what you look like. 5/5 stars. (Bring Bandaids.)

"I am Going to Clone Myself Then Kill the Clone and Eat it" is a collection of some short and very short stories Pink wrote from 2007 to 2009. They are rawer than the stories in "Hurt Others" or the second person narrative of "No Hellos Diet". This is a very good thing for Pink. His manic highs are more grandiosely intense, the sporadic visions of violence more grotesque and absurd. Not as sad or introspective as the other works most of the chapters seem written off in a few moments, spare thoughts that came to Pink out of the blue. A few provide the instant gratification and cleverness which is so often attempted now (and usually failed at) in twitter posts. My favorite story was "Thing That Details a Trip to the Supermarket" where Pink describes an agonizing trip to buy food, his neuroses and obsessions constantly rising to the surface of his thoughts while he fights to maintain a calm and ordered demeanor. There is also a short play between two family men discussing their lives while holding knives to eachother's throats. It reminded me of something that would come from some Franch Avant writer in the 20's or 60's and brilliantly bizarre. Biggest disappointment? The collection wasn't longer.

This is such a great read. I have bought several of them and given them away. Sam Pink's other books are good but this one is by far the best. I prefer the other cover with the title in black and white text but this one is fine.

I'd never heard of this writer and bought the book because someone said he wrote edgy stories. I suppose some might find them as such, but to me they were on the level of 'high-school angst.' The book is short, a saving grace.

ça ne ressemble à rien que vous ayez lu avant, et c'est parfois dérangeant... mais c'est aussi étrangement touchant, cela donne l'impression de penser différemment, et peu de livres réussissent cela.
