Know Your Cows Paperback – January 1, 2012

I love cattle and the many beautiful breeds throughout the world. I can now easily recognize many of them!

My 23 month old grandson is the fifth generation in a dairy farm family - he LOVES this cow book. The text is written for adults, far too advanced for a little toddler, but he loves looking at the pictures and learning the names of the all the different cow breeds. It's one of his favorite books. We have all learned a lot about cows!

I ordered this book for my 2nd grader. She's currently being homeschooled and I signed her up in a program to virtually "adopt" a cow or calf from a local farm. Well we recently received info and picture of our adopt calf and I wanted to extend the learning experience, so I was browsing for a good book that was informational but not too hard for a 7 year old. I loved the detailed description on the book to make it easier to figure out if it would be appropriate for her, instead of having to go research the book to see if it was her level. I just received the book and am highly impressed. There may be a few hard word for her but nothing I can't help with. I feel this book is perfect. So how she can look and read through, find what type of cow her calf is and we can do a whole little unit on it. Highly recommend!

I bought this for my son since he's super into cows and he loves it!

We raise beef cattle and this book was a gag gift for my husbands stocking. He thought it was pretty interesting, but it does exclude many of the hybrid type breeds. It's small, so make sure you read the dimensions so that doesn't disappoint you.

I like the pictures and the history. Truly a good booklet.

This is a little handbook, like those pocket books for bird watchers, so it is easy to stuff in the glove compartment. It has a nice color photo of each cow for easy identification and a description on the facing page. It's just what I needed. I grew up in a city but, if we went for a Sunday drive, we passed a farm that had Holsteins. I didn't know there were any other kinds of cows. Then we went on vacation to New Hampshire and I met up with the most delightful red-haired animal with bangs. Pretty obviously some kind of bovine creature but what? Next it was a field full of black cows with white belts. Holsteins with very well-organized spots??? It became obvious that I needed help identifying country critters.Now if only the author would do one for goats.

It's probably made for older kids but my 2 year old loves it. He is all about cows
