Inside the Titanic (A Giant Cutaway Book)

My maternal grandfather made his way to America from Germany as an 18-year old coal trimmer aboard the Imperator, a Hamburg-Amerika line ship launched in May 1912, just one month after the sinking. Although my interest in the stems from my family history, the tragedy is a storytelling form as old as the Greek myths from which the ship was named. This "titanic" book brilliantly captures the arc of that terrible night through the true story of two families told in simple prose accompanied by beautiful illustrations and photographs.It opens with the boarding of the first-class Carters and the third-class Goldsmiths, cleverly introducing the different worlds from which they came and continued to occupy while on board the ship by the four-page foldout depicting a full ship cutaway. The middle section of the book is the moment of impact with the iceberg and the catastrophic consequences that follow as the great liner sinks below the surface in less than three hours with 1,500 souls still on board.The third and last part of the book features the rescue and the aftermath. Both children survive although their family and personal history are forever marked by that night. This is an excellent story and resource for the young scholar. The information and pictorial detail is accessible and gripping no matter where they are on their Titanic journey. I highly recommend this book either to begin or enhance your exploration.

My ten year old grandson is fascinated with Titanic movie and all info about it. He loves to read and learn and share what he has discovered. This is a nice large hardback book with lots of pictures as well. He loves it!

Arrived in perfect condition. I had the exact one as a child and love being able to enjoy it again with my own children. The pictures are so detailed. I love the small-scaled glimpse inside the titanic! Perfect for any titanic fanatic, young or old!

Inside the Titanic is all about the Titanic and how it sank. It features a four page Titanic diagram, and even follows two boys as they explore the ship. This book obviously took a TON of time to make, probably because it contains tons of real facts, beautifully drawn and detailed pictures, and real photos from the trip. This book is great for people who love non-fiction and adventure! Great job Ken Marschall and Hugh Brewster!

I purchased this book for my 4 and a half-year-old son, which is now fascinated by all things Titanic. I felt the tragic nature of the story; the excessive text of most books and the content of the movies were not suitable for kids. When I found this book I knew it would be just right for a him.The size of the book was the first thing that amazed my son. Then he was impressed with the dominant artwork inside. Marschall's illustrations are simply wonderful. He's indeed a great artist and an expert when it comes to the Titanic. The book illustrates the great ship, its interiors and it's ultimate demise as it follows the story of two real-life children that were aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage.My son was so excited after we finished the book that he insisted to take it to school where his teacher had a reading for the whole class.

Titanic is by far the most checked out book in my household at the local library! Upon our 40th or so attempt to check it out, it has been wet and damaged by another family, so we're buying our own copy! It is well worth the purchase as it entertains the children for hours. The huge size, all the fold out pages, the extremely detailed artwork, and the child-friendly but accurate account of the Titanic story makes this a must have for my family. I recommend it highly!

This book is geared towards children 7 - 12 years old. It gives the story of the Titanic from the perspective of one the surviving children. Marschall does an excellent job in illustrating the ship and providing photographs of the journey. The actual sinking and rescue are handled quite well and it's clear the author has put a lot of thought into how to talk to kids about the tragedy.
