Vibes (Retro VHS Packaging)

I am pleased. It plays decently well ..all things considered. The sound isn’t horrific.If you can’t find it, are desperate for a copy and this is all you can find, do it! It plays no worse than an older vhs tape really.If you’ve not seen this yet… i wouldn’t buy it on a whim.. the plot is.. ridiculous.But i collect and getting my hands on this was worth it!

This is a fun movie with good actors, Cindi is wonderful.

This is one of those 3am, 'I can't sleep' movies that you just absolutely adore. I actually did that. Woke up in the middle of the night, couldn't sleep, and turned on the TV to see this movie on. I saw Cyndi Lauper talking to Jeff Goldblum and was like, "Whoa! I didn't know she was in any movies!" Then, out of nowhere, Peter Falk came in. I was hooked, just seeing Columbo! It turned out to be a comedy that was really good. There are some BIG name actors in this movie, such as Julian Sands as well.Basically, Cyndi and Jeff are psychics who are recruited by Falk to go to Ecuador to search for his son. No, it's is father. No, it's his business partner. Anyway, they go down to Ecuador and after Jeff is nearly killed by a woman he meets in a bar, run off in search for 'The Room of Gold', which is not, as the name would suggest, and gold treasure. It's a massive source of psychic energy that the villains in the film want to harvest to 'introduce some much needed order into the world'.Anyway, the movie is good and has some great one-liners in it, which makes me smile even now, sitting here writing this review. I wish Lauper and Goldblum had done more movies together, as their chemistry on film is really fantastic. The soundtrack is good (well duh, it has Cyndi Lauper in it) as well. I used to own this on VHS, and when the DVD came out, I bought it immediately. I still love this movie after all these years and recommend it to anyone who has never seen it.

There was a barcode sticker placed on the barcode hole on the sleeve that half stuck to the dis case and half to the sleeve. Came. Off the disk half easy. Was a pain to get off the sleeve.

What else do you need? The movie was released in 1988. You have Cyndi Lauper, Jeff Goldblum, Julian Sands the Warlock himself, and Peter Falk in one of his last roles with a Steve Buscemi as an extra and a smattering of other actors that will make you say, "hey, it's that guy/girl from that show/movie"! And it's a fun movie that, to me, still holds up today. The story is original and I don't think anyone else has copied it yet. And it's a Ron Howard movie. I thoroughly believe that Cyndi Lauper's character in this movie was the catalyst that germinated the idea in Paul Dini to create Harley Quinn four years later. Watch this movie and come back to me and try to change my mind. It's one of the best movies I grew up with and I am glad to have it on disc again. You know, when I was a kid, the only way to get a copy was to record the movie off cable. And it was during one of those free weekends that the cable company gives everyone access to HBO or Showtime and others at the time. And to make your video tape last and hold as much free content on it, you had to switch the VCR to SLP speed to make your 2 hour tape last 6 hours. Sure, the definition went downhill faster, but at least you could watch your favorite movie anytime you wanted without renting it. And that's how I got my first copy of Vibes. When I put the disc in my wife found it annoying that I could almost recite the movie word-for-word even though I haven't seen it for a long while.

Also Peter Falk funny in just that special way he had of the nod and a wink sort of humor.This movie is fantastic. agreat deal of fun to watch.If there is a movie Im a fanboy of its Vibes.I can watch it over and over and never tire of the banter between Lauper and Goldblum.The title at the top means what I mean. These characters seem to be written just specifically for the actors. either that or the table read made lots of changes. the words match the special way that each of these actors speaks. Now with a great many actors (Jim Carey, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, John Travolta) letting the actors go off on their own inevitably causes the movie to suffer, either from cost overruns due to all the extra time from improvisation, irritated directors and crews for the overruns, or from just too much of that actor that the story suffers in the long run.Not so here, I promise.First though, you absolutely have to enjoy these actors, especially Cyndi Lauper. Back in 88 she was known for being quirky and creatively out of control (who remembers her as the wrestling manager for Captain Lou Albano) and of course her videos, which helped keep an audience for MTV, back when it had some relevance to music, or entertainment, or really to anything except exploiting the stupidity of people when you point a camera at them.Likewise I have always been a fan of Jeff Goldblum. I just like the way he speaks his lines, the pauses, the looks. Peter Falk is the same way, if you remember Columbo, you remember that certain way he delivered his lines.This was actually a hallmark of the 80s. actors were characters pretty much the same no matter what role it was. William Shatner is famously made fun of through out his career for this very thing. Back then most every actor was like that. another hallmark of 80s movies is that knew how to write endings. endings that actually tied up all the plotlines.the movie is a very well written comedy. every character introduced has an actual reason to be there.

Really looking forward to receiving this film even though the film itself is all over the place in terms of it's plot. The retro vhs packaging was what interested me, however I received the blu ray without said packaging so I'm very disappointed as it was intended as a birthday gift.

粋なレトロ調VHSビデオケース風カバーに包まれ初ブルーレイ化しかし、映像はリマスターされていないのでは？そんな感じがします。映像特典も無し。以前発売されていた輸入盤DVDソフトバイブス秘宝の謎には予告編が映像特典として収録されていました。もちろん、Blu-rayですから日本のレコーダーで問題なく視聴可能です。しかし残念ながら日本語吹替及び日本語字幕は付きません。コレクターズアイテムとして購入する割り切りが必要ですね。
