What it doesn't say in the instructions is to add water to the bottle of citric acid. It was pretty obvious that you needed to do this, but it wasn't mentioned anywhere. I can see how people wouldn't be able to get it to work without adding water. But we did, and it was pretty cool. The kids thought it was awesome, anyhow. And the magic snow - that's another part that lacked any instructions. It says to just add water. Ok - but how much? So, we slowly added water with it and it was really, really cool. But add too much and it turns to gel, which is eventually what happened. But in all, fun lessons on chemical reactions.

This product is awful, and was a major disappointment to my grandson. The quality is dime store cheap, and it doesn't work. The volcano base is made of some papery plastic, and the plastic tube is so cheap and hard that it won't bend as it is supposed to fit and bend under the base. Instead, it aims at an angle and the base is so flimsy and cheap that it won't lay flat. It appears that this science experiment kit was de-engineered to the point of uselessness. We were never able to make it beyond putting the tube in the base. There ought to be a law...
