Sturdy plastic without being inflexible. I don't worry about this item cracking or separating when drawing a hard line or using pen. The variation of sizes/orientations is useful (and you can always shrink it on a copier & trace if you need tiny tear drops). I use this for ceramics. I didn't even realize it had patterned edges when I purchased it, but they have been useful at times.Not flexible enough to wrap around a mug or vase for direct tracing; I just use carbon paper and then transfer the design. Would definitely buy more of this brand.

I like the tool well enough, but it really is small for the price. It could be a little larger with a few more sizes and be more appropriately priced.
