A Lighthearted Guide to Germany Review: Great Guide to Germany - This is an excellent, light-hearted, down-to-Earth, but very accurate guide to Germany. It's an easy read (I've read it three times, once since arriving here), and very much worth the read for anyone traveling to Germany for the first time. I'm navigating Bavaria on my own during the days while my husband works, and this book has gotten me through a lot of social situations that would have otherwise left me clueless. Overall, it's a great, fun book to read before any trip to Germany. Review: Nice entertainment for the long flight - I purchased this book for a friend who is going to spend some time in Germany during her trip through Europe. The book is really a "lighthaerted Guide". It is entertaining and easy to read. It makes appetite to see if the things written in the book hold true. As a German I must say that most of the things in the book are true while a few seem to be more unique observations of the author which he turns into generalizations. But since it is not a dead serious guide, I found it acceptable. The book is to a certain extend subjective as the author admits is a bit biased and the content seems to be limited to his experience, which nonetheless is a lot. If you are looking for lists of recommended bars, hotels or restaurants to go to or if you intend to learn some of the language, this is the wrong book for you. But if you want very good entertainment and an idea of what Germany is like, this is a very good start. I would recommend to get it for your flight to Germany.

Ctazy but true
This book gives you real insight into the German culture. It also supplies some handy tips when traveling. Go crazy on your trip with this good read.

Fair to Middlin
Some parts of the book were fine but the author went on too long in certain other areas. When he was talking about off beat customs the book was very good. When he got into other areas such as October fest the book sounds like it was written by a college student on his first weekend away from home- juvenile. Not worth the money.

A fun little read
It's a slim little book--a mere 100 or so pages--but a worthwile investment for me. I'm currently living in Germany and cultural clashes are bound to happen whenever two cultures collide. It really helps when you can start understanding the German psyche, something you don't get much of in your language course. The author has a great love for the German people and that's apparent thoughout his book. His perspective has certainly helped me get along more amicably, and learn to appreciate, my rule-abiding neighbors. It is a highly recommended read for anyone who will be living in Germany, but also with the type of tourist who mingles with the locals. If you are a tour-type tourist, it might not be worth the money unless you are just curious about German culture. In my experience, ex-patriots all idealize life/culture in German--it's almost a fairy tale. (Germans in Germany are much more critical of their culture). This book bridges the gap, it's written with love, but there is some examination of the uniquely German world view. It's appropriately titled, it's a light-hearted 'taste' of life in Germany.

Helpful supplement to regular guide book
This book has some very good practical tips for what you might experience in Germany. It's a good supplement to a book like "Rick Steves Germany 2015." There are many good tips about ordinary life in Germany, and some things that you would not get in a guide book about sites to see. Some tips include what is expected when you go to a restaurant, and things to watch for if you drive the Autobahn, visit a sauna, buy wine or beer, attend Oktoberfest or rent a bicycle to travel the network of bicycle paths.

Good book, but boring occasionally and there are technical problems with kindle format
The book needs a little bit more humor, it is hard to engage sometimes. There are small tips in boxes and you cant scroll them down, they can not be read, i had to change to font each time. It has not been tested well enough.

Pretty good little book!
I usually choose things based on other reviews, although I DO keep an open mind because not all people think alike. The only reason I give this book 4 stars and not 5 is simply because it is so short! I do wish it was longer, because it is a good read. Also, I think the price is about right as well, but I can't stress enough that this book, could be longer, and I wish it was!

I was intrigued to read this book written by an outsider about my campatriots. This is another book, unfortunately, just dealing with southwest/south Germany. - I didn't realise that Aachen was in northwest Germany. Who moved the town? And why so much beer and football?

Sorry my English isn’t so good. I bought this book for my husband because it was his wish. I think it is ideal to get more into the German culture. He lives here for more than five year but from time to time he discovered something new in the German culture. We have a friend here how settled new into Germany and it helps him very much. I would recommend that German should read this book too. They would understand which problem foreigner gets here and they would see another view of their country.

As someone who's lived in Germany I really found this a dull waste of money. It's not witty, insightful or even particularly interesting. Save your cash and buy some other book on Germany.
