The Young Man and the Sea

Reminiscent of the Old Man and the Sea. A great read aloud for any age. It brought about some debate in my family as to which is bigger, a marlin or a tuna.

One of my favorite childhood books. I often think about this book and I honestly can't put a finger on why I like it so much. You'll just have to figure it out yourself when you read it, because it is worth it.

I read this book to my students at school during free reading time. There were many days that we read over our time lot because the kids would not let me put the book down. The story is very good for kids because it gets points accross to them about how this boy deals with several issues that life has heaped on him. It also shows how much a retired person is able to help children as they struggle through issues. I ordered the book myself to have at home because the story was so good! Jean Schweer

Gud book, I recommend this to people ages 12 and up, and neat story with a boy his father and dead mom

So, this is a book for teens/young adults, but I must say (as an adult) that I LOVED IT! My husband and I spent the weekend at the beach, and it was rainy, so I read the book aloud. We both enjoyed it thoroughly! It got us to thinkin' about our own childhood, parents and how we grew up. It got us happily thru a rainy weekend!

The school asked for one of the summer reading books, my daughter is reading, she came from China soon, it is difficult to read. I believe she will like it.

I am a 5th grade teacher. I use this book in a reading group. The students love it. Boys are drawn to it and like the adventure aspect of the story. It has good themes of man vs. self and man vs. nature. It also deals with being a son of a single parent, bullying, and alcoholism.
