a great retirm to rocking nazarock
This isn't as strong and the newest release from the band. In fact it's pretty solid as a Nazareth release. THe new one sounds more like classic naz than this one. But this one is a solid rocker. It's got a lot of rocking songs. Most of which sound pretty darn good. This has a extra cd of live songs too. I would say it's closer to 'boogaloo' than to earlier releases, so the sound is hard rock , and naz fans should be happy with it. It's hard to believe that this was in 2008 their fortieth anniversary. This band made so many classic hard rock and rock songs that we should all be grateful to to have them still around. This isn't great hard rock but it's very good hard rock. Form a great band.

old pro's
I didn't know what to expect with this cd since I had purchased Big Dogz first of which I thought the most of wasn't quite living up to Nazareth. But "The Newz" wow! classic Nazreth all the way. This album is a quality work with out a doubt, I'm really glad i made it a part of my collection. Some of my friends who aren't real nazareth fans listened to this cd and were absolutely blown away. If you like nazareth at all this is a must have, if you are not sure who Nazareth even is, this is a cd that will make a great first impression.Anthony

Really Great Music
I've waited about a week before I've reviewed this cd. It is no doubt Nazareth's best music ever. I've been a fan a long time. I really didn't expect this one to be this good. Everything is great, vocals, guitars, bass & drums, every song is good. "BUY IT NOW"

Forty Years Gigging And They've Saved The Best Till Last
NAZARETH The NewzEdel RecordsNearly ten years on from "Boogaloo" Scotland's premier rock band come blasting back with a brand new collection of thirteen songs. I am completely justified in reviewing this album from a Blues perspective because "The Newz" is shot through with influences that stretch back through time. Make no mistake though this is a very contemporary album and all the better for that. McCafferty's trademark vocals are strong and powerful however, for me, the great difference is that, finally, guitarist Jimmy Murrison has stamped his personality all over the place. His playing is outstanding throughout and, when coupled to the completely re-invigorated rhythm section of father and son Pete and Lee Agnew, it is clear that this band have the potential for a massive success with "The Newz". Ok so will you get for your cash? Take your pick from the funky Soul of 'Goin' Loco' or perhaps 'Day At The Beach' which is radio friendly. 'Liar' pulls no punches, is hard and heavy, has great lyrics and rips into George Bush. When 'See Me' starts it immediately grabs you with its easy going sing along charm. It is another single possibility. The love ballad 'Enough Love' is anthemic and ideal for a film score. 'Keep On Travellin'' and 'Road Trip' are great driving songs and sure to be awesome if done live with pounding beats, vocals to die for and strong guitars. It is such a pleasure to say that there is not a weak song here. Still mad bad and dangerous after forty years Nazareth are back and this is a terrific album with a capital T.Graeme Scott

Second only to "Hair of the Dog"
I LOVED this album. I was lucky enough to go to the re-formation gig at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfirmline (start of the Gathering tour) and it was magic. There are some really great rockers on here, together with some really good heavy metal tracks, and a couple of excellent rock ballads: Dan McCafferty is a genuine wordsmith. Particular favourite is 'Enough Love', which after a VERY difficult couple of years brought me (I'm not ashamed to admit it!) to tears, and I always like to play it for my wife, who helped me through those hard months.Be warned, though, if you are a Manny Charlton fan, he does NOT appear on this album. I hear that Charlton also toured under the name of Nazareth for a while, but he and McCafferty / Agnew have gone their separate ways, and this album is the latters' work.

Not Surprising Really....
I bought this because I own a few of the old(er) vinyl albums which are superb. Thought I'd give the newer stuff a try.I wasn't disappointed. Even though Dans voice isn't all it used to be he can still make a sound worth listening to and could still show a few of the young pups up. The guitars and drums are still just as strong and spine tingling as they used to be even if the line up isn't as recognisable. And The Gathering is a brilliant track and would have been at any time in their careers.Recommended.

Awesome Naz!!!
The gents still have the buzz in their blood. I loved this album. Pity Dan can't stand in part time for AC/DC? Awesome guys. Keep them coming.

A good effort.
A good effort from a band well past their prime. The new blood shines through! Lets hope we don't have to wait 10 years for another one!
