I purchased this set for my daughter for her art class. This was her first experience with calligraphy and she loved the set! It was easy to use and she had no problems with the ink or nibs. She was able to successfully learn the basics of calligraphy using this product. She said she would highly recommend it, especially for beginners. The other plus is that when she is ready to advance her skills, the company offers other nibs (tips) that can be purchased for a very reasonable price. This allows her to add to her set without having to purchase a whole new one.

I ordered this pen set for myself before deciding to order another for a gift. This set offers a great nib starter set and easy to use instructions. I am new to the ink pen writing style and absolutely love it thanks to this pen set. It is fun and easy. I already have a favorite nib and a wish list of nibs and inks I want. This set is great for beginners and works well as a gift. If you are looking for a fun hobby, ink pens are a great creative stimuli.Will buy this brand again based on the quality of this pen and nib set.

Love this product. A little scratchy when writing - when making long strokes, if pressed to hard the prongs on the nib spread apart making for an ugly stroke and sound which also scratches the paper. If careful, the pen is nice to hold (though plastic) and easy enough to learn how to use if you haven't used a dip pen before. A quick dip to the crook of the nib is all you need. Have an extra scrap paper nearby to scribble so you don't write with excess ink and have beautiful lines. It does not work well at certain angles; thick to skinny lines in writing is not seamless.

These kinds of books are my jam. I love writing in various forms/fonts of calligraphy, and this book gives an array of wonderful styles. The book pages are sturdy, and they lay flat for ease of use as I practice a particular font. Highly recommend.

I bought this item for my fiancé as a Christmas present. He was very excited to receive it, and began using it that very day. He has never used a calligraphy pen before (he has always done his calligraphy using a fine point Sharpie marker) and I had seen good reviews about this set. It did come with everything you need to begin, however he found very quickly that the quality of the pen isn't very good. It is a plastic pen with a very flexible nib. This caused a lot of ink to splatter randomly as he tried to write, as it would get stuck on the paper and the ink would go all over his paper. This was very frustrating to him because it caused him to have to start the entire page over. He has watched many videos and tutorials on how to do calligraphy, and I believe the next step for him is to get a metal calligraphy pen. This will make for smoother and more secure writing. All in all, it was a good purchase because it came with everything you need to get started - I just don't believe the quality of the pen is good, even for beginners.

The Speedball Textbook is published every several years as a overview of the subject. Each edition is unique. All are outstanding with beautiful artwork and instructional exemplars, and this one is, too. I like the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 size that is spiral bound that lays flat. This one definitely belongs in any collection.

Great Beginner set for anyone learning basic drawing or letting with pen and ink. Decent starting nibs for lettering, but not so much for drawing or sketching. One thing that helped me was learning how to prime the nibs (see Youtube videos on setting up your nibs and sizing) and what each mark looked like first. One of the Top 5 most recommended india inks, I agree. The ink doesn't bleed through 40 lbs. mixed media paper and dries clean and even. Good ink for washes, too. Quill is super basic but sturdy enough for the job. The nibs are very flexible which isn't necessarily a good thing for last. Nibs are pretty easy to clean.
