Engaging and Superbly Done
I enjoyed the story and delivery. One weird footnote. As a former Marine I could not verify that Betsy's grandfather was ever Commandant of the USMC. She may have gotten the legacy from a family member who was in error.Bodio's evocation of the natural world and local folks is a triumph.

A beautiful book.
Discovered Bodio through Tom Russell's recommendation of Eagle Dreams. Really liked Querencia as well. Sharp, crisp writing. Evocative of country, food, drink, women, digs, horses and hunting.

funny, evocative
Steve Bodio is one of America's underrated treasures. "Querencia" is very moving, funny, evocative, and beautifully written, a magnificent and poignant portrait of a time and place, and of a relationship, with all the joy and pain that come from loving someone.JP

A book set in Magdalena can't be bad.
I have read several things Bodio has written over the years and enjoyed them very much. I like his honesty and his comfort with his own contradictions, we all have them. Querencia was special to me because I have a little off the grid hide out outside of Magdalena and Bodio gets it right. If I ever bump into him at the Spur I will buy him a cold one.

Well Written Fast Read
This is a well written memoir by Mr. Bodio. It is a fast read and kept me interested to the end. I love the descriptions of that area of New Mexico.

Wonderful accounts of moving into a rural New Mexico town
A magnificent book by a genuine human being/Renaissance man. Wonderful accounts of moving into a rural New Mexico town, getting to know those who already lived there, and becoming accepted and one of them. Plus deeply a human account of his partner's illness and passing. Just a wonderfully human book.

If you like the Southwest...
I just finished Querencia and I think it is a pretty unique book. A memoir, an homage, loose diary..., I don't know. It is for sure a book to show love for your departed love one. I liked it a lot buy I wouldn't recommended it to everybody, or maybe I would. Definitely, if you have even the most superficial interest in the Southwest, you will love it.
