AIT Art Select Red Sable Detail Brush Set, 7 Pure Russian Sable Paint Brushes, Handmade in Germany for Crafting Exquisite Details Using Oil, Acrylic, or Watercolors

I have to preface this review by saying that I am not an artist. I like to recreationally paint for my own personal enjoyment and that's it. I have been trying to do some very detailed work lately. I had found a few small brushes, but in my ever increasing quest to find even smaller brushes, I came across this set with a 20/0 mini liner. Exactly what I needed! As soon as I opened the package I thought that the brushes looked great and well made. The handles and ferrules are great. The hairs are tight. Zero shedding. I'm only disappointed in the stray hairs, a small amount of fraying and the size comparison to my other brushes. The larger brushes in the set are awesome and I can see them replacing other brushes I have. But the smaller brushes, the reason I bought this set, not so much. The 20/0 mini liner looks and paints much larger than 2 other 18/0 mini liners that I have from other manufacturers. The end is frayed slightly and came out of the padded box that way. There are bent hairs right at the tip on the 10/0 round. And on the 3/0 round there is very marginal fraying and one random long hair. I'm sure I can fix some of this. I hope. I haven't ever had to trim a brush before, but I'm going to try. I love how well they are made otherwise.UPDATE (1/21/2018):The company contacted me and offered to replace what they believed were defective brushes or issue me a full refund. My original review was as stated above and 3 stars. It wasn't a bad review. They really didn't need to do this. Their customer service goes far and above. I wanted to give them another chance and asked that they send the replacement brushes. They arrived quickly with a tracking number straight from amazon. And I'm not sorry. These brushes have none of the above problems that the other set had. I'm able to get the ridiculously tiny paint lines that I was trying to accomplish out of the two smallest brushes just like I wanted to. I'm so happy that they contacted me about the brushes and that I tried them again. I would not hesitate to order from the company and strongly encourage others to order from them as well!

Let me preface this by saying I am a new to miniature, table top games, painting. I was looking for some options to get in to those harder to paint spots on the smaller figures.The set came in a nice box, packaged with tip protectors on each brush along with care instructions. The handles are on the narrow side, but not too long or too short. The ferrule on each brush was well attached and clean. The brushes them selves were in excellent condition... No stray hairs or split ends and the points looked sharp.I had a slight issue with one of the brushes splaying on the first use, and AIT's, Alexander, service rep was quick to reply and incredibly helpful. They back up their product!Good value, good brush, and good company! I am looking forward ordering from them in the future, and i'd recommend this set to anyone getting into the gaming miniature painting hobby.

My kids got me a paint-by-number of Van Gogh's Starry Night, but the brushes that came with it were terrible. My dad was an artist and sign painter, and I remember him talking about sable brushes, so I Googled that and found a bunch of options. These were the most affordable for me and worked out great. The eyes of this 64-year-old retired physics teacher needed some help, so I had to buy a magnifying headlamp to do the finer details, but it turned out well enough that it's hanging on our living room wall.

I paint toy soldiers and mostly flats, well enough to do it professionally were I not disinclined to turn a pleasurable hobby into a job. I can attest, there's nothing more important to a successful outcome than top quality detail brushes. I would not rate AIT as good as the best Kolinsky sable brushes, but when you consider the price vs. cycling through other brands at $10 a pop, they represent a strong value buy. Even if there's one or two duds in the box, you're still getting your money's worth.I my case, I received the AIT brushes last week. #3 was an immediate fail. # 0 has given good service but now needs some coaxing to form a good point. # 3/0 has become my primary brush for all but the finer detail work and still holding shape after hours of use. Have not needed the rest yet but the 10/0 in particular looks excellent. In short, this set makes a great backstop to preserving your other top of the line brushes. Will buy again once these wear out.

Love these for detail oil painting!

I do alot of miniature painting (warhammer 40k mainly) so I needed a set of high quality detail brushes. I won't touch synthetic bristles as I feel natural sable hair holds the paint better and doesn't deform as easily.These brushes are great, there are some that are a good size for larger pieces (the shader especially, I love that brush, been using it daily). There are also some with an insanely small tip which I've been using to paint text. The brushes come in a padded box and none of the bristles were pinched by the protective sleeve which is a first for me with ordering brushes online.I like these alot and for the price I will probably order a second set. Btw I've purchased sable hair brushes for up to $10 each, this set gives you 7 so it's kinda a no brainer.
