Millennium - The Complete First Season

You'll get hooked!
We tried the first season of Millennial after binging on X-Files and going into withdrawal when it was done. One of the X-Files episodes ties in with the Millennial Group. Chris Carter does an amazing job. Lance Henrickson is flawless as the lead. It is well written, keeps you coming back for more. There are enough twists and turns to keep you involved in every episode. Like the X-Files, there is an occasional 'funny' episode. The characters are well acted and believable. No gratuitous sex scenes. We ordered the 2nd season while watching the last episode of Season One. Just finished Season Two over the weekend and the 3rd season will be ordered today.I'm not sure it's a great view for the littles. Many episodes have both violence and scary scenes that might be a problem for the kids. But it's probably not near as graphic as what they see on television and the internet. This is a really good show. The discs arrived quickly and in great shape.

This Is Who We Are
"I become capability. I become the horror-- what we know we can become only in our heart of darkness. It's my gift. It's my curse. That's why I retired." -- Frank BlackMillennium was that other great show Chris Carter did besides The X-Files.Millennium aired from the fall of 1996 to the spring of 1999. Three seasons of the series were produced, a total of 67 individual episodes.Frank Black was played by Lance Henriksen and his wife Catherine was played by Megan Gallagher around these two people an interesting tale of paranormal events and paranoid conspiracies was intricately woven, complexly knotted, and all focused and ready to take some unknowable form upon the coming of the year 2000."Paranoia is just a kind of awareness, and awareness is just a form of love." -- Charles MansonFor all three seasons we eagerly watched the adventures of Frank Black, a former FBI investigator, as the world tilted and twisted spinning closer and closer to the year 2000.The first two seasons of this show were just beautiful though the second had several questionable miss-steps but kept it together as the pseudo mythology of conspiracies in the show were expanded on creating more and more darkness and paranoia and then came the last season which to summarize frankly tanked miserably. As with other shows Chris Carter built he created a dark, deadly world and interesting, fragile and paranoid, edgy characters and after a while he lost interest and let other people kill the dang show by seriously messing up the story that was being told, with plot holes bigger than a bread box, and softening up the characters with cheap sentimentality, or out right killing off major pivotal characters.Hmmm, sounds allot like the The X-Files does it not?Poor Chris will he ever learn?Between you and me the third season is only worth watching if you fall in love with the show during the first two. Otherwise although you can see them struggling to save the show let's just say the downward spiral had gone too far."Let us go in; the fog is rising." -- Emily Dickinson, her last words, 1886Anyway Frank Black and Millennium never made it to the year 2000. Unless you saw that X-Files episode which I refuse to acknowledge. The show for all concerned was promptly sent to the trash heap of cable programming on the FX channel and forgotten by the FOX big wigs. That hateful ripoff Profiler seems to still be shown in reruns on TV. But we hate that blond bimbo, she is no Frank Black.I could go on more about my own fascination with this show, how the thoughts spoken and the dark visions still linger with relevancy and echo with teeth rattling truth. How the shadows in this show are much darker and meaningful because of what they are not showing than any special effects could have given us.I will not tell you about the episode Beware Of Dog that used a Carpenters song Close To You as the sound track to a murder of an old couple in a Winnebago by a pack of vicious, demonically possessed, wild dogs. Nor will I tell you how that one twisted, messed up moment makes me laugh every damn time, Nope not one word, I promise.Just buy this DVD collection of the first season and I promise you some good-scary-fun hours of pure joy."CREATE DESIRE" "EVERYBODY WANTS BEAUTIFUL HAIR" "FACILITATE ENVY" "WORK WILL SET YOU FREE" (...)

The Knight fights evil with his mind
This 6-disk Collector's Edition will surely satisfy any yearnings to be scared stiff watching episodes of Millenium One. It contains informative audio commentary from Creator Chris Carter on the making of the Series (albeit short-lived), French & Spanish versions, and TV spots. Our hero, Frank Black is endowed with an uncanny ability to see into the twisted minds of serial killers and his talent helps to counteract against dark forces and evil manifestations which leave regular law enforcement agencies perplexed and mystified. A real cool customer is Frank Black, a Knight with no shining armour, but mind weapons to solve those stupefying crimes.

Dark and Daring
Millennium is a class act; each of the episodes in season one plays like a well-crafted feature. The incredibly high president is set by Chris Carter's PILOT (which, as SPOTNITZ says in the extra features, is one of the finest things the X-Files creator has ever written). The comparison with Millennium and the X-files is inevitable (in view of their common creator) but not entirely fair as, at least initially, the subject matters dealt with in each are quite different. If the 2 shows must be compared, however, it is worth noting that at its best (episodes such as the PILOT, DEAD LETTERS, 5-2-2-6-6-6, THE WELL-WORN LOCK, THE THIN WHITE LINE, SACRAMENT, LAMENTATION & finally POWERS, PRINCIPALITIES, THRONES AND DOMINIONS) Millennium considerably out-classes Carter's main success story. It also is far more frightening than the X-Files ever could be, taking the viewer to areas the X-Files would never dare enter. The season is also notable because in all the 22 episodes (spread over 6 discs) there isn't a single 'bad' episode: KINGDOM COME, LOIN LIKE A HUNTING FLAME and WEEDS come the closest, but these are still respectable entries. While the show is frequently disturbing (and relatively graphic in its first season) the violence never feels gratuitous; in fact, much of it takes place off screen. And the "yellow house" provides a much needed contrast to the dark themes explored. Lance Henricksen ( as Frank Black) is utterly convincing, as is his wife(played by Megan Gallagher) and so is their 'daughter'.Millennium may not be to everyone's taste but those looking for intelligent, mature and exciting storytelling will not be in the least disappointed. I would go as far as to say, Millennium is one of the 3 greatest TV shows ever.

Awesome show!
I used to watch this program on TV and thought it was amazing so when I saw that the full set was available on Amazon I had to have it in my collection. I loved revisiting this show and for sci-fi fans you won't be disappointed.

This is it!!!
FINALLY, the wait is over. After more than 4 years after the series end, Chris Carter's dark drama finds its way onto DVD. The dream of every MillenniuM-Fan finally comes true. Although being the little brother/sister of the X-Files, MillenniuM has its very own style and feel, and marks one of the most revolutionary and mind-blowing shows of the end of the last century. If you "enjoy" serious mystery shows with a slight horror touch and are prepared to look into the depths of serial killers, buy this and follow freelance profiler Frank Black through the first of three years of diving into serial killers' minds, descending into mental chaos and finally losing his family himself. Dim the lights and unplug the phone, here we go!
