When Crickets Cry

Best Book I’ve Read in a LONG Time!
Warning…this book is going to give you ALL the feels and make you bawl like a baby more than once. That being said Charles Martin somehow captures the reader and doesn’t let go. The way he describes Georgia and Reese, Emma, and Annie’s lives is exquisite yet humbling. Charles Martin has quickly shot up to my most favorite authors list. Somehow Charles helps the reader remember what it means to truly care for others even when you are deep in the thick of emotional despair. He reminds you that loving and serving others is the best medicine to a broken heart, and that continual love and service heals the broken heart and lessens the scars it leaves behind.

An excellent read
This book embodies the idea of finding your purpose. Whether you start young, struggle to find your way, or find your purpose once you lose your health or one of your senses. This book is a beautiful reminder of this And it also intertwines the important knowledge that God is the one that gives us purpose.

such a great story
This was a heartwarming story of love found, love lost and then love found again. I usually can read a book in about 2 days but this one took 7 days because I wanted to savor ever word. One of the nicest things about this book was there was absolutely not one curse word! I am not above using “colorful” language but it was nice reading words. I strongly recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a very sweet story.

Great Story
Charles Martin is becoming one of my favorite authors. This book is warm, entertaining, funny with a little mystery thrown in for kicks. I’ll give you a warning. Do not start reading it at bedtime-if you do you won’t get any sleep because you will be reading it all night. Mr. Martin has the ability to keep you engaged using the warm, likable characters in an engaging story of love, regret, and second chances. Just a great read !!!

Enjoyable with a grain of salt
I previously started this book and immediately stopped because I just couldn't stomach all the god stuff in the prologue. I tried again and enjoyed the story, but the end was pretty cheesy. I got through the bible stuff by thinking of it as an unavoidable feature of southern gothic writing. Every character is excessively altruistic to the point that I was almost rolling my eyes. All the same, I was engaged and hoping for the best.

A story about moral obligations and responsibility.
If you like good literature then this book is for you. Charles Martin has the ability to use the written word to describe a person's inner feelings and fears. The main character has suffered a traumatic experience and has retreated and rejected his former life and friends. His emotional climb back to his former self is beautifully described. We begin to understand his dilemma and his inner demons. His writing reminds me of the style of James Lee Burke. Whereas the latter describes crimes and their consequences, the former describes personal failures and how they affect, not only your own, but other people who are close to you.

Beautiful
Made a grown man cry, not once but three times! I must be getting soppy, anyway it was a great story if a bit grim at times.
