ANDY ROURKE and MIKE JOYCE were the legendary rhythm section behind THE SMITHS. For the first time on film they tell the story of what it was like being in one of the World's most celebrated and groundbreaking bands. What it was like working with MORRIS

Inside the Smiths a "Should Have" DVD
Inside the Smiths DVDPros:1. 'Inside the Smiths' is a rare look inside this historical band from the perspective of the band members and not just some journalist on the outside.2. The video audio/visual quality was clear and not like some cheap copy of an interview (of which I have seen plenty)3. The film showed what Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke are doing with their careers nowadays (which details I was not aware of)4. Andy and Mike were very candid about some intricate details in the life of The Smiths and some of the details were somewhat eye-opening5. The video had some classic cheesy video effects (maybe that's a con?)6. As a short documentary, it is something more unique then the old interview videos of Morrissey.7. It is a really good display of two band members whom in their wisdom can share hindsight on their experiences in the band rather than just some old footage of when they were in the vortex of the `new band' experience (this is something I haven't seen in other Smiths videos.Cons:1. The video was too short and left out a ton of potentially juicy stories2. The video did not include any actual Smith's soundtracks or enough photos of the Smiths (lame)3. Jonny Marr and Morrissey were not in the video (not even close)4. Did I mention cheesy video effects?5. The documentary was not really even a documentary on The Smiths being that it was originally filmed (over a 3 year period) as a quasi-documentary of Mike and Andy's current DJ career. It was apparent that the `Documentary' was really an afterthought (which was disappointing, I expected more)Overall I think it's a `Should Have' DVD for the diehard Morrissey/Smiths fan, yet you might only find yourself watching it once a year (or less)!

Half a group
An average documentary. I wonder why Johnny or Morrissey weren't interviewed. There are better productions about The Smiths on Youtube in my opinion.

the smiths
Rourke and Joyce moved rather quickly through the smiths years. i would have liked to have heard more about the albums and songs. they dicuss morressy and marr in terms of artistic abilities, but never go into detail or provide and refershing new information. The commentaries by other musicians were bland and off focus. I found it very annoying when they they used this cinamatogrphy every ten minutes. This may sound like a negative review, but I expected more inside information from two members of the smiths who were there to see it all. phil

Great Doc!!!!
Contrary to the other reviewers I found this documentary quite fascinating. At the end of the day, to have two actual members from The Smiths give an inside look into how things were in their band, it is not going to get any better. We know we will never hear from Morrisey or Marr so, IT IS WHAT IT IS!!! There is also a short interview with Craig Gannon in the extras section. Take it or leave it.

a great insight to a monster of a band !
I grew up with the smiths and loved them for everything they brought into my life.they really did write the soundtrack to my young youth and have forever remained within my conscious mind and heart.maybe it was mozzers words or maybe johnnys music, maybe it was the way mike joyce and andy rourke joined together to create the perfect rhythm section to compliment both moz and marr's work but all put together really did shape the way many people saw and lived thier lives beit right or wrong.at the end of the day, it was all about great, unique, possibly never again heard in such an astonishing way, music that really should have been given the accolades, way back when it mattered, the way it is being perceived now by closet and at the time, denial fans that thought it too uncool to ever even own up to having any sort of soft spot and affection for the band.i am proud to say now, as i was back then that the smiths were and still are immense in music and provided a bench mark for so many young upcoming indie type bands of today and much more.this dvd is all about joyce and rourkes take on being in the smiths and it is so fascinating and a great insight of the way of life within the band and how things were without putting anyones noses out of joint in the process. very honest and realistically told with good natured banter and humour within and throughout.joyce really speaks from the heart and not just as a band member but an obvious fan of the band and music and really gives voice to many fans take of the whole smiths phenomenon..i really enjoyed this dvd and it is a total must for any self respecting smiths lover and fan.fantastic !

There's more trouble at t'mill in Manchester by Joyce/Rouke on DVD.
Made without Morrissey and Marr this is a very useful DVD film documentary about life inside The Smiths by Joyce and Rouke without damaging Morrissey & Marr too much since the High Court Case in London in 98 did a magnificent job demolishing Morrissey's utter greed and contempt for his 2 fellow Smiths band members.

This isn't very good. Either buy it reduced on marketplace or skip to the excellent QUEEN IS DEAD UNDER REVIEW / THE SMITHS UNDER REVIEW double pack which I have watched to death despite no actually member being intereviewed they are stronger products. The way it's shot is messy and despite being sold as the only doc to include two ex smiths, it reveals nothing.
