Bought this for sketching while traveling. It works very well.They should probably advertise this as a pencil to set people's expectations correctly. It leaves a mark on white paper that is almost as dark as a number 2 pencil. If you're expecting ink, you'll be disappointed. If you want a pencil that doesn't need sharpening this may be for you.If you lay down a thick enough area, it can, indeed, be smeared with a fingertip. Thin lines are difficult to smear but if you go over an area several times, it's smear-able. This is not a bad thing for drawings, but if you emphasize things by going over them more than once, don't count on them not smearing.

I got this to keep in my car so I always have something to write with! I was tired of pens leaking with the heat and this needs no sharpening. A great and unique product!

the idea of this, the look of this is 5 stars however it writes so poorly it's not much more than a novelty. I can only describe it as scraping on paper as opposed to actually writing, and it shows up like extremely light pencil lead. It is a truly interesting idea, I just don't find it very functional as a replacement for a pen or a pencil.

I use this pen all of the time! It is phenominal! You do have to sharpen it after a while, which is a burden if you can't find any sand paper, but a nail file works just as well. I will be buying again!

Our order of two of your inkless pens, has just arrived! We ordered on April 11th, and it came today, 4-14-14!Your description of these pens, is 100% true! It does lay down a faint grey line, and it does NOT smudge nor erase! This is going to be a perfect item for us, as I'm learning the art form of Zentangle.The mention of the lead that is placed on your paper, is SO minimal, one would have to put the pen in their mouths, and keep it there for the next 50 years for it to be a worry or concern. This inkless pen writes more like a pencil, making fairly thin and light marks, but it works every time and will likely never need to be replaced. The wood barrel feels good in the hand and also looks great, making this good for gift giving.It should be noted that the box comes with a small warring sticker that advises "Do not to place in mouth" due to the tip containing lead, so this should not be given to children or, from my experience, people giving up smoking.Recommended!CFH
