The Douay-Rheims Version of the Holy Bible, translated between the years 1582 and 1610 and revised by Bishop Richard Challoner from 1749-1752, is the most accurate English translation of the Bible available today. It was the only Catholic translation of Scripture commonly in use for over 200 years and we maintain that it is still the best and safest version of the Bible in English. Translated with profound respect for every word, the beautiful style of the Douay-Rheims Bible will instill in the reader a deeper understanding of the Word of God. Annotations, references and an historical and chronological index make it convenient for study as well as meditation. Item No. SB2056 Paperbound. TAN Books in association with Saint Benedict Press Review: Great reproduction of the DRC1752 - This Bible is a flawless reproduction of the 1752 Challoner-revised Douay-Rheims—so spot-on it even keeps the original typos. I’ve got this one, the leather-bound edition, and the Tan Books version, and I’m head over heels for all of them. We ditched the NABRE after growing tired of its gender-inclusive language, heresies, and disconnect from the Church’s Liturgy as we hear it at Mass. Sure, the language can feel a bit archaic, but that’s no hurdle—modern AI chatbots not only make it manageable but actually deepen the richness of your spiritual dive. True to Challoner’s style, the footnotes are on the lighter side, but with a little digging, you can grab the Haydock notes online for free. Those break down nearly every verse in stunning detail. I’m sticking with the DRC1752 from here on out—nothing less will do unless a fresh translation comes along that holds fast to Catholic tradition and teaching in more modern wording. Despite what some ads might claim, no such thing exists beyond this, the original Douay-Rheims, and the Clementine Latin Vulgate. If you’re serious about your faith, this is the real deal. Review: Timeless Gift of Faith and Wisdom - I am delighted to share my remarkable experience with "The Holy Bible: Douay-Rheims Version" purchased from desertcart. As a traditional Catholic Bible, the Douay-Rheims version has an enduring appeal that resonates deeply with those following the Catholic faith. I gifted this to my girlfriend, and it was received with immense joy and appreciation. The depth, wisdom, and timeless teachings found in this version of the Holy Bible make it a truly meaningful gift. The physical quality of the Bible is equally impressive. It feels durable and made to last, which is crucial for a book of this nature that is often read and referenced frequently. Moreover, the print is clear and easy to read, making it a pleasure to engage with the scriptures. In this Bible, the richness of the Catholic tradition and the centuries-old wisdom of the scriptures come together beautifully. It serves not just as a religious text, but as a valuable resource for reflection, guidance, and inspiration in everyday life. My girlfriend has found it to be a significant addition to her spiritual journey. In conclusion, "The Holy Bible: Douay-Rheims Version" is more than just a book—it's a treasure trove of spiritual wisdom and a testament to the Catholic faith. If you are looking for a meaningful gift or a valuable addition to your own spiritual library, I wholeheartedly recommend this Bible.

Great Bible, Great Publisher
I ordered this as a gift for an RCIA candidate who expressed interest. I own the bound version of this. All the Bibles from this brand are terrific; I own several in different translations. They are very legible with great type. The pages are fine, but not transparent enough to have bleed-through. This paperback appears to be well constructed. One of the problems with Catholic Bibles is that there isn't the same level of competition as Protestant Bibles, so the prices in general are somewhat higher. I was a Presbyterian Bible lover for decades, and I've found this brand to be the equal of Kirkbride--and that's saying a lot. I think they are better constructed and assembled certainly than Nelson or Zondervan. I love referring back to the Douay-Rheims for its poetic content. Every Catholic enjoying Bible study should have one.

Catholic Bible
Wonderful Catholic Bible. Raised Catholic and never new this Bible existed. I have since found one from 1869 with more books in the Old Testament. Glad I was able to purchase this. Excited to get it and put the tabs on it, however, the tabs ended up ripping some of the pages. That was very disappointing. I, do however, highly recommend this Bible.

Great translation and the binding is very nice
I’ve been searching for a copy that I could carry with me while I travel. I’m enjoying it so much. It’s nice to read a more accurate translation. I’m planning on gifting it to my daughter when my visit here is over.

The real verses translated correctly
When I saw how NAB and RSV-CE deleted words especially the word "fasting" when how do you remove evil spirits by prayer and fasting that was in Douay-RheimsCatholic Bible. I'm so disappointed in Fr Chris Alar who plugs his Divine Mercy RSV-CE Bible. Yet knowing words and complete sentences are removed. The NAB pleases the Novus Ordo Roman in-out Quickie Mass. I have the old NAB version which the Byzantine Catholic Rite uses still for their epistle and gospel readings during The Divine Liturgy. The new NAB is okayed by McCarrick, figures. I advise Bible readers to get this Douay-Rheims over any other version. By the way King James version is a Protestant version which homo King James didn't write but a-okayed it rather than have the Protestants use a True Version Catholic Bible. The words of Jesus Christ are in red print.

Édition supérieure de la Bible, version catholique Douay-Rheims-Challoner = Enhanced Reprint of Best Romish Catholic Bible
"The Holy Bible, Douay-Rheims-[Challoner] Version", in this fine-looking and handy edition from "Saint Benedict's Press, published in association with TAN Books", as they print it, is essentially a refurbishment (perhaps more than totally a facsimile reprint) of the Douay-Rheims-Challoner Version as it had circulated widely at the turn of century (i.e., of the 19th into the 20th) in an American variant of the Bp. Richard Challoner's text. I own, among the various editions of the Douay-Rheims-Challoner Version in my personal library, one from the John Murphy Company, of Baltimore, copyrighted in 1914, which is very similar to what TAN has published for several decades, the pagination aligning but with slight variations here and there in line endings within the double columns. For a widely distributed U.K. variant, one of several over the years, of Challoner's text, there are fairly common ones that the Catholic Truth Society (C.T.S.), London, in small but stubby editions, published. In my own book collection, I have a 1956 edition (1960 printing), with slight updatings to Challoner's text as the British Roman Catholic bishops in England had authorised it anew at the time. Challoner texts of the Douay-Rheims Bible appeared in mix-and-match editions based upon one or more of Challoner's own original wording and his later variants of it, so that the Douay-Rheims-Challoner Version never was standardised into an identical text, but the variations are, in fact, quite minor, so far as the average reader would find them to be. The American text that TAN Books reprinted over the years, in various hardback and paperbound editions, is as good as any of them. The Saint Benedict/TAN edition is a beautifully produced, enhanced reprint that has freshened up the appearance in page lay-out and cleaned up the lettering from the source's font to bestow an almost thoroughly modern look to it. The result is, indeed, one of the most attractive Bibles, especially of those issued as paperback books, that I ever have seen. In addition to the extra features at the end of the volume that one finds also included within the J. Murray edition mentioned above, all quite useful, especially to traditionalist and other Roman Catholics but to other Christian readers, as well, are some newly added ones, namely (but not mentioned here entirely in the sequence in which they appear in this Saint Benedict Press edition) some newly drawn maps, simpler (but, alas, much less detailed) than the ones in J. Murray's edition, four pages of "Beloved Prayers Which All Catholics Should Know by Heart" (providing one with some worthwhile spiritual and memory exercise!), and a list of "The Succession of Popes" down to Benedict XVI, but not further to the current Pontiff (as of late 2016), Pope Francis the Talking Mule, concluding with some stunningly well reproduced oil paintings by a major and some minor masters (Albertinelli, Maino, Bloch, and El Greco). The extra features retained from the source edition are yet more useful and precious to the Christian reader, specifically consisting of "Historical and Chronological Index[es] to the Old Testament [and] to the New Testament, [etc.]", a not separately headed brief, alphabetically arranged, topical index, and "A Table of All the Epistles and Gospels [read within the liturgy, be it noted in the old single-year cycle] for All Sundays and Holidays throughout the Year and Also of the Most Notable Feasts of the Roman Calendar", and a list of the books (and number of their chapters) of the Old Testament (including within that sequence, of course, the Deuterocanonical writings, which Anglicans, Lutherans, and other Protestants, and the sectaries call "Apocrypha") and of the New Testament. I have praised elsewhere, in other Amazon reviews, Bp. Richard Challoner's superb translation, which considerably improved upon the original Douay-Rheims Version, integrating much of the wording found in the classic Authorised ("King James") Version that Anglicans, other Protestants, and sectaries use as the most standard Bible among their ranks, so I shall not belabour, here too, the defense of the Douay-Rheims-Challoner Version per se in this review. Challoner's decision to conform the Douay-Rheims Bible as much as possible (from a Roman Catholic point of view) to the A.V. (K.J.V.) Bible saved the Douay-Rheims Version from obsolescence, enabling it to be, right down to the present day, the best Roman Catholic Bible of all in English, before or since Challoner's own times, despite the many (and less worthy) rivals to it that have appeared, especially in post-W.W. 2 decades of the 20th and 21st centuries. May the attractive paperback publication (and the hardback- and leather-bound ones, as well) from Saint Benedict's Press meet the needs today of Roman Catholic and other Christians, too, for a reliable as well as handsomely-printed Bible.
