Big hit!!!
*BIG hit !(girl, 3years 3 months) The Letter & number tablets held her attention for 45 minutes before bedtime. After I worked w her on the letters and the numbers, she had to pretend to be the teacher and teach me! 😂Of course she didn't want to go to bed...She did sit still in the rocking chair w me( loved that ! )*Excellent for beginning stroking skills.*Challenging, will take time to develop.*Perfect for beginning readers and writers. She stroked letters, A- Fthen wanted to drop down to letter M to continue stroking letters. The magnetic board made it easy to redirect her thinker to travel to the next row on the left side of the board and continue writing from letters F to G.She's practiced this several times..she's learning how to read left to right!!! I enjoyed watching her learn and this made it easy for me to interact w her. It's just fun to play with, write with, pop the magnets in and out, wipe the board with the magnetic pen and pop the magnets down.I applaud it's not a computer program or ap providing this enthusiasm. I don't recommend giving this to a child without previous writing or reading direction. It would not be in the best interest of the child to use this without guidance. I wouldn't want someone to miss the opportunity to help teach an important foundational activity to a young child. Begin now, early to train the brain to work Left to Right in both reading and writing . You'll quickly see the payoff early as you watch reading and writing skills emerge and be practiced....a lifelong skill.I think she'll enjoy this for awhile. A sound academic and fun interactive reading and writing toy/tablet/tool.

They love the magnetic aspect and their interest is held for ...
I just also purchased both the upper and lower case cursive hand writing alphabet ones for my children (5 1/2, 8 and 10 year olds) and for my daycare (2 1/2-5 year olds). They love the magnetic aspect and their interest is held for quite some time (they’ll practice on these for anywhere from a 1/2 hour to an hour just for fun)! These are highly effective in encouraging and establishing pre-cursive writing skills, basic fine motor skills and refining existing writing skills, at each stage of development for the age groups I’ve mentioned above. I wish I’d had these when I was overseeing the preschool and lower school curriculum for two private schools for five years prior to starting my daycare/homeschool co-op. I’ve had these- upper and lower case alphabet handwriting ones for a number of years (before purchasing the cursive ones now as well) they are a favorite amongst the children I care for and they still look practically new. My youngest has been writing (handwriting) all the letters of the alphabet since she was 3 1/2, greatly due to these products, in conjunction with handwriting work sheets and “write and wipe” products, after her introduction to handwriting using these products (the same goes for the children in my care). She’s already writing cursive letters of her own volition after using the cursive ones for only a few days, with no other cursive writing practice sources. I highly recommend these!

2.5 yr old asks me to help her work on this!
I just received this 'toy' yesterday and my 2.5 daughter loves it! She walked over and took it off the shelf this morning and said (serious quote here) 'Mommy come work on this with me please'. She referred to it as work, not play, which to me is indicative of her realizing that this is a lesson and not just a toy. She loves pulling the magnets up and is definitely drawn to it. I will be using it with flash cards and plan to show her a letter and then ask her to find and 'trace' the letter on the Magnatab. I tried this with two flashcards last night right after we opened the package and it went very well.I do agree that the magnets are a little strong and there are no grooves which makes it difficult to 'trace', but I didn't buy this product to necessarily teach my toddler the best penmanship, I wanted something that would be engaging and help her learn the alphabet, recognize letters, and begin understanding the concepts of writing/pen strokes. I am very satisfied with my purchase!

Great to learn how to write
So I had one of these back in 2011 when my oldest was starting to learn her alphabet; I just got this one the other day to replace that one for my youngest daughter! Unfortunately one of the letters is missing a bead; the H is missing the middle bead on the right arm… Which stinks and of course she pointed it out!

not too shabby
This is a pretty good product, but does have some flaws. The magnet on the pen is pretty strong; when you place the pen to one hole adjacent magnets come up as well. Nonetheless, my 2 year likes it and plays with it at least twice a week. I think it may be more appropriate for 3+ year olds. My nephew (2 years 11 mos at the time) was actually using for its intended purpose. My sister-in-law was so impressed she purchased 2 weeks later as a birthday present for him.At least my daughter will be able to grow into it. I am still happy with the purchase. I bought this and the 0-9 numbers one at the same time. Some previous commenters complained about the pen not fitting and getting lost, but I have never had that issue. We purchased this Dec 2013. My daughter puts the pen back in its groove after each use.

2.5 Year Old LOVES this!
My son is 2.5 and plays with toy every day. It's a fun, interactive way to learn your letters and has gone a long way in inspiring an interest in learning to write. True, some of the letter suggest a weird order, but he doesn't follow those, usually I show him and he copies what I do.It's a study toy that has been dropped and tossed around. No batteries! I do wish the pen was attached somehow, but we haven't lost it, YET! It's definitely an educational toy with no gimmicks or gadgets, so it doesn't keep his attention for too long. And the magnets pop up pretty easy, so it's not a flawless tool to teach them to draw correctly, but it is certainly a good foundation that my son likes playing with. Good enough for me!I just saw they have a lower case one, so we'll definitely be ordering that.
