Yes! That is one of the great things about it! :)

Q: does this come with hot and cold packs

No it does not, but you don't need them. The carrier works very well without the hot or cold packs (just my personal opinion but you can do whatever you like). I never had any issues with any type of food that I have put in my carrier. My cold food stays cold and goes the same for the hot food. I made lasagna at 4am, left for work at 6am and at 11:30am took my lasagna out of my carrier to have our Christmas lunch. My lasagna was still hot and my co-workers wanted to know how I kept it hot the whole time. Now all of the ladies in the office wants my carrier, I told them where to find it at. Hope this helps.

Q: can you take the dish straight out of the oven and put it into the carrier without burning the material? or do you need to line it with a towel?

It's lined in plastic. So if the dish is 400 degrees, I think you would want to wrap a dish towel around it first. just in case.

Q: Is this machine washable?

The sauce spilled out on one dish and it looked ruined. I put it in the sink and used soap and a sponge then put it outside to dry. It's fine now. I don't think I would put it in the machine because the insulation might be compromised.
