Lakatos

I recently bought this album, because Mr. Lakatos was giving a concert and I was going to see him. I had never heard of him, so I asked my violinist sister if she knew anything about him. She told me he was incredible and not to be missed.The CD is amazing! If you can afford it, get it; it's a treasure. There's fire in it, and I couldn't stop listening again and again. I also love the other musicians in the ensemble, and the fact that they use traditional instruments (complete with cymbalon - something I have only seen in Eastern European pubs).And then I went to the concert.Roby Lakatos is one of those things for whom the word artist seems too weak; or at least, if you call him an artist, try to whisper the word gently. Make sure you don't disturb anything. Never mind that his technique is breath-taking. The real wonder is how he makes his violin sing. I had tears in my eyes, a first for me at a concert. Maybe sometimes, something happens somewhere in the universe, and we receive a gift. It might be called Gould, or Monk, or Heifetz, or Bach. It might also be called Roby Lakatos.

Not the gypsy music or violin playing I loved in my youth. More of an exercise in fancy techniques, rather than gypsy soul.

Roby Lakotas is, in my opinion, one of the two greatest violinists playing today. However his range from gypsy music (he is a gypsy) to jazz to classical probably makes him and his various backup groups make for a wonderful treat.

Every track on it has 1st rate playing by Roby and accompanyment by his group - his pianist in particular.

Really good - interesting, eclectic style. Looking forward to somehow catching this group live again somewhere, somehow. This album shines.

Lakatos is really outstanding. His virtuosity is incredible. A really musical phenomenal. Simply a great DG cd. The repertoire is very beautiful.

this is one of my favorite CDs of all time... amazing violin with a grrreat band doing most of the classic gypsy standards on one CD... virtuousity abounds as maestro Lakatos soars to the very heights of "gypsy violin heaven"... order one while they are available here in the states at a reasonable price- if you love true gypsy music- this CD will astound you !!!

The quality of this CD is magnificent. I paid $40 for it, and I would gladly do it again. Roby Lakatos and his group is one of the most exceptional musical groups around today, and I would recommend them to everyone.

Lakatos può dividere gli animi, ma non si può non riconoscerne lo straordinario talento violinistico. E, poi, ogni tanto, bisogna evadere.

Man muss in der richtigen Stimmung sein, dann nimmt einen diese CD so richtig mit. Ich würde sie wieder kaufen.

ich habe die cd durch meine geigenlehrerin erfahren. sie ist einfach der hammer. mal ne abwechslung zur ganzen klassik. oh ja
