Hilarious!
So funny! And I love how you can read one story, and then come back a week to two later and read another. It always makes my dad cry because he is laughing so hard

So very funny!
This author is so funny, one cannot help but laugh out loud! I have read many of his books and I bought this to share with family members to brighten their day.The book arrived in good condition, was packaged well enough to protect the book, and arrived in a timely manner. I am well pleased with his seller and would not be afraid to purchase from this seller again.I'm going to reread this book again before I pass it on.

One of the funniest people I've ever read
An outstanding collection of stories from a great American humorist. Everything from wry observations to roll in the aisles funny. Unless you absolutely hate the outdoors and related sports, hate them with an almost pathological hatred, you should find something funny in these stories. Or maybe take up golf.In the introduction Jack Samson calls Patrick McManus a worthy successor to Robert Benchley. I first met Benchley many years ago in CHIPS OFF THE OLD BENCHLEY and found him to be a very funny man indeed. I find McManus to be even funnier. I also think that there is more of Mark Twain than Robert Benchley in McManus' writing. My wife and I once traveled a lot by car. I often read McManus to her while she drove. Read until the point that her laughter interfered with her driving, then we would take a break. It got to the point that if any story began along the lines of, "Me and Retch Sweeney" , she started laughing before I could continue reading.A FINE AND PLEASANT MISERY was the first which I read to her. It still brings fine and pleasant memories. If you enjoy it I also recommend our favorite, THE NIGHT THE BEAR ATE GOOMBA.

Hilarious!
If you are a certain age, and did a lot of camping throughout your life, this will make you laugh out loud! Patrick McManus has a way of making you re-live every moment, the good, the bad & the ugly, he is one of the best writers I have ever read.

Hilarious, as always.
Buy it/all of them, in which ever form of media you prefer. It will be worth it.My dad used to read these books to us any time we went camping/traveling (he had ALL of them, and even some on cassette). I was slow to understand sarcasm when I was little so I never enjoyed them, but a fair amount of their contents were often referenced growing up.I finally read my first one (this one) in college years back and almost got kicked out of the campus library for laughing on multiple occasions.Recently went on a month long roadtrip with my partner and decided to get myself a copy of this one and another to read during long stretches and at camps. He loved them (at least, when he could understand what I was reading through my spurts of laughter)! I will never go camping again without one of these in tow!

A must read for you camping trips!
This is an absolutely hilarious book about experiences in the outdoors and while camping. It is a collection of short stories that will have you rolling in your chair and if you happen to read this out loud to your friends and family they will be hysterically laughing as well. The other books in this series are just as entertaining.

A national treasure
I've read many many many stories by Patrick. Started when I was very young reading The Last Laugh in Outdoor Life magazine. My grandfather was a lifetime subscriber and I would look forward to getting them after he had read all he wanted to. Best part was always the story in the back continued somewhere in the middle of the magazine. His humor has been a long standing part of my life since. This book is a great example of one of our countries greatest authors.

What a fun and funny read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've read very few books that actually make me laugh out loud but this one does that. His tales of the wilderness ring true to me. I've experienced may similar but never saw them in the humorous way McManus portrays. I saw my youth in his stories. Even if I had never camped in the mountains without a tent and warm gear I still would have loved this book. I will definitely buy more stories by McManus because I love to laugh.

A Disappointing Bore
Never got beyond the first chapter on this one. The come-on never indicated that it was a woodsy outdoorsy thing of interest only to those who also probably follow "Mark Trail" in the daily comics.
