BrushtechPropane Hose Safety Guard

Little product info
I just got done installing two of these on my BBQ 6 ft LP hose. What this product is, is a metal coil spring, about 34" long with a diameter of 1". If the end fittings on your supply hose are over 1", the spring will not slide on and you will have to get the spring started on the hose and then keep winding it around and around the hose, more times then I could count. It is not an easy task. It took me 45 minutes to do the two springs. My fingers and wrist are still sore. Nowhere does the product say what it is made of. I hope it does not rust! There are no installation instructions. You are on your own. I do think the product will be effective in keeping the squirrels from chewing holes in the hose which allows the gas to escape, so this product is worth the price to me. Product information is lacking, so I am giving two stars.

Frustrates the squirrels - easy to install - made in USA
I have reached the end of my patience with squirrels chewing through the rubber hose on my gas grill and unfortunately I can't choot 'em. My solution is to install a hose made of braided stainless steel and this Brushteck safety guard. It is an inch or so diameter coil / spring that easily slides over the end of a gas hose with a standard fitting. Several reviewers indicate that it doesn't fit over the end.TIP: Slip the safety guard over the end that attaches to the grill. It will not fit over the regulator or connector to the gas tank. If the hose is already attached to the grill then unscrew it, slip the guard on and re-attach the hose. One are of improvement would be to make the spring out of stainless steel vs what appears to be plated steel.Big plus - Made in USA

Well suited for protecting propane hose from damage
Just got a new Weber Q2200 grill and wanted to prevent the regulator hose from being eaten by squirrels or other varmints. The grill hose is about 6 feet long, and the Brushtech is about 27 inches or so, so you will need two of them for 5 or 6 foot hose. Once on the hose, you need to pull them to stretch the length, so that the two sections fit tightly together without gaps. While many reviews indicate putting the safety guard on is a major headache, a couple of tricks make it much easier to put on. Use a screwdriver to get the beginning of the guard to go over the connector so that you can start turning and screwing it on to the hose, then use a pliers to hold the connector's tightening ring firmly in place. You can then just turn the guard continuously to feed it on to the hose -- took me about 10 minutes for each section.

Effective Device
The Brushtech guard is well made and it works very well on my Weber Genesis Silver grill. I've owned grills for many years and have only just recently found for the first time that my grill's supply hose had been gnawed and was in fact leaking. Obviously this is dangerous and it should be obvious that this is a safety problem with all grills that have rubber hoses---probably most of the grills sold and in use in the U.S. Even if your supply hose does not get cooking residue on it (mine really can't) the little beasties who share the outside environment with our grills enjoy chewing on rubber regardless. So Brushtech provides a product that the grill manufacturers should supply.I've deducted one star only because the information here on Amazon (exactly the same text as on the Brushtech package) is uninformative. To install the guard you need to detach the LP tank supply hose where its fitting screws into the grill manifold and slip the Brushtech over the fitting onto the hose. Mine fits but I don't know whether these fittings are universally sized; if yours is wider than about 3/4" in diameter it might not slide through this guard. So noting the inside diameter of the guard and explaining how it installs would be useful on the product page.

Almost perfect.
Ok would of gave it 5 stars if it was easier to put on. Also needed 2 for my Weber propane hose. Pain in the @ss to put it on, you have to wind it on which took about 35 minutes straight! Wrists are very sore as I type this! But it will work and protect my 24.99 Weber brand adapter hose! (3rd one in two weeks!) Damn Squirrels!

Great once I got it on
It was difficult to install on the supply hose for my Weber Q200 because of the fittings on both ends

Worked great for protecting a thermostat cable in a crawlspace.
Worked great for protecting a thermostat cable in a crawlspace. The builder of my house thought it was a great idea to have the 2" access hole for the thermostat wire placed right above the water pipe. A great platform for rodents to try to gain access to my interior walls but that pesky thermostat wire was in the way. 4 HVAC calls & a new thermostat later and much $$$ I use this to armor the wire after plugging the hole.
