A definite improvement over the pre-populated seed sponges from AeroGarden!
I own an AeroGarden LED device that I bought on Amazon about two years ago, when it was on sale. I really like it and think it's fun to grow your own herbs, lettuce and even vegetables. I've had some failures using seed pods purchased from AeroGarden, and with this crop of herbs decided to try using my own seeds with these sponges. I purchased the seeds from Home Depot (Burpee seeds, nothing fancy) and used these to cultivate a new crop of Italian Herbs (Italian parsley, oregano, thyme and basil.) What a difference!Instead of having one or two duds in my seed pod package from AeroGarden, these seeds germinated perfectly. In fact, they needed thinning since more than one seed in the sponge germinated. I was always disappointed in the Italian parsley and thyme I purchased directly from AeroGarden, but now I see I don't have to do that any longer, and my results are much better and more consistent. It is also much less expensive! A package of Burpee Italian Herbs seeds is approximately $3.79 at Home Depot and has enough seeds for at least 3-4 crops of herbs. Add the cost of the sponges (50 of them in a pack) and you are still way ahead of the game.Cherry tomatoes are next after my current crop of herbs is exhausted. If you're a new AeroGrow farmer, I'd encourage you to start with AeroGarden's own prepackaged seeds to learn how to use the device. Save the plastic sponge holders after you've finished growing/transplanting your garden, and you'll then just need to purchase these sponges and your own seeds. You'll have fresh herbs, lettuce or vegetables all year round!

Expensive but worth it
I tried a different brand. The planting hole on the knock-off pods was much smaller. And they are made with a different material, I think (read the detailed descriptions). I noticed a poorer germination rate with the other brand. I am sticking with original AeroGarden pods in the future. I now think they are worth it.

Works as intended, pricy considering the one time use
I like the idea of planting your own seeds in the Aerogarden, the ability to plant your own seeds with the exact set up as the prepackaged aerogarden seed pods is an attractive option. The cost of the aerogarden consumables is a bit on the high side. Supplies for planting 50 seed pods with your own seeds is going to be in the one dollar per pod range when you factor in the other items needed to complete the seed pod.Over all I love the fact that I can grow food in my living room and the aerogarden farm plus and farm xl look finished and not out of place in that type of setting. On a positive note the seed pod system works as intended so you do get a nice return on your investment. Fresh off the vine tomatoes in the middle of a midwestern snow storm without leaving your living room ... can’t beat that!

Great product
These looked a bit different than the ones that come with my aero garden kit, but they work great! They fit into the tray and have the insert hole for the seeds. I have not noticed a difference in the growth of my plants. Plus these are a great price!

Works
Used to plant my own cilantro in my bounty basic hydroponic garden. They appear to work just like the pods that come with the normal kits. I was able to successfully get my seeds to sprout in both pods.

Germination is much faster and more reliable than garden planting.
Grow sponges are ideal for starting off flowering plants from seed in the Aerogarden as the seeds germinate much more rapidly than in the garden soil, and so many more flowering plants can be grown in a shorter space of time. An added bonus is the fact that they are not at the mercy of slugs!

Ero fiducioso!
