Gillette Is Finally Back!!
I’ve been shaving with Gillette razors since 1968 when my Dad gave me his first razor, a 1938 Gillette Tech. I’ve always loved the older D/E Gillette razors and was very excited to get my hands on this one and Gillette did not let us down with this new model! The case is the old leatherette they used to use on upper end razors and should keep our new Gillette secure for years to come if cared for. Upon opening the case this new razor glistens brightly and looks beautiful! After I took it out of its case I placed a few drops of Break Free oil on the screw post and in the handle port to reduce wear on the screw post hence extend the razors life. I immediately prepared to shave my three day beard with my handsome new Gillette! Using one of the Gillette Platinum blades provided I did a two-way shave; first with the grain then second pass cross grain and then a little touch-up on my two rough areas on my jaw and I was done and wearing a BBS shaved face! What I learned first was I’d never be tempted to press while shaving due to the heft of the heavy handle alone! I actually needed to concentrate on not pressing to avoid razor rash! To me that’s the secret to shaving with this new Gillette: Respect the handle or the razor will bite you! Otherwise this Gillette has a lot in common with my EJ 89 as a reasonably mild shave as long as the weight of the handle is respected. Fit and finish are absolutely perfect in every way!! Merkur and Muhle can not compete with this Gillette in any way except subjective personal preference, an narrowly at that! The handle is made in the USA out of stainless steel. The two piece head is chrome plated and made in Germany. Anything else you hear is simply not true. This is Gillette at its peak! You have every reason to be as excited as I am now about owning this beautiful razor that will cost many times more than it’s current price in the future! Finally: Buy this razor! Buy it today! You will treasure it for life! So will whoever you leave it to!Thanks Gillette! You hit the ball out of the park again! Don’t stop now! A new Super Speed and a slim adjustable would be nice!! So would a Red Tip for our shaving brothers that need an aggressive razor! Now you really are “The Best A Man (or Woman) can Get!Don’t stop now!!

The old way to shave is sharp, very effective. Takes time to learn.
This my first experience with a safety Razor, I enjoyed the presentation of the razor as it comes in a nice clam shell box, similar to the old school razors of the 1950s.You have to exercise great caution because you’re shaving with a very sharp blade, the shave is very very close. I was shocked how close it was. Yet I did miss some areas on the chin.It takes time to understand how to hold the razor properly, and also realize that you don’t want to add a lot of pressure. If you’re used to shaving with cartridge razors and adding pressure to get a close shave, it will back fire on you with a safety razor.Allow the weight of the razor to do the work. It will mow down the beard easily. Use short strokes. Also invest in pre shave oil, and a quality very rich shave cream or soap.I use Art of Shaving products. The pre shave oil and quality shave cream will make the shave with a safety razor more comfortable. The wax strip they use on Gillette razors does help, but the safety razor has not have wax strip to help moisturize.Always shave after a steam shower. My experience was good. Comfort was 4 stars only because I may have added to much pressure and my skin was a little irritated. With time I’ll learn. This is a very very close shave. Go for it. There are many YouTube videos to help you.Lastly. A pack of safety razors is far more cheaper than the more expensive cartridge razors. And you will get a closer shave.Remember using these razors is a much slower shave. Make sure you have the time in the morning. Don’t shave if you’re in a hurry. Bad idea

in comparison I give 3 stars
COMPARED to my Chinese zinc allow twist open with durablade. This one is slightly, heavier, and smaller (depending on preference this is good or bad).COST; However it cost 3x as much. and I got it on limited sale, the manufacturer sells their own brand at about thirty five today. My Chinese twist was $7 and its lasted 5 years thus far still going.FREQUENCY; I shave with the twist about 3 times a week. and use it in the shower as well for more then my face, and I will cut myself when the blade gets dull, or I will rash myself if it gets dull. but i'm aware now so this is rare. The Gillette was PURCHASED only for my face. I used it for other things but I cant say its worth 3x the cost, quality is better in the head as its SS. The rest is standard. Over the years i've tried about a dozen different brands, and probably watched hours upon hours of review and manufacturing on this topic (as if its a hobby). But what can I say; i'm really obsessed with my hair under my chin, and razor bumps, I should just laser it off.(i already tried waxing it and epillator, while smooth it hurts and leaves me red for a while. also you have to grow it out longer.)Its a TWO PIECE top. Slightly more effort to remove and replace then the twist (twist is easier to load IMO), but not a game changer in any way. and with a little practice you won't cut yourself loading (but the potential is there for the 2-piece; its all about how you remove the blade from the packaging really.)AGGRESSIVENESS; its pretty good. Cuts lower then my electric Remington, it will take a thin layer of skin off if you press too hard, dry shaving it pretty good, it doesn't grab very much and the blades are sheer. sometimes I will just dry shave under my neck the stubborn stubble IF my electric doesn't go close enough for my liking.wet shaving the upper lip and other sensitive areas is good, no noticeable or vast improvement over my twist. But performance will be as standard as physics, design, and manufacturing equipment allows in 2020 today.I've noticed more aggressive designs don't necessarily handle cross pattern or bumpy skin under neck better for me so I don't pay more for these adjustable designs or aggressive designs. they don't list the micron, angle, or detailsbut i'll guess its a medium, scale of aggressive 1-10; its about 6-7, where 8-10 is a rash or a face peel; and 5-6 is like a triple foil, 2-5 is like a dual blade bic which I actually prefer for dry shaving during travel if I forget my electric.BALANCE; I believe balance is preference, its short and fairly weighted, and just like anything if you hold it at its proper neutral balance point and the head does all the work its really negligible to me about the size or weight. other may disagree, but I'm 5'10 of average build facial features. my hair type is curly, multi-directional under the neck, and medium-course. As i'm older now, I have somewhat sensitive skin, so dry shaving will sometimes give me a rash.BLADES; These blades are great, I like them, if they cost as much as my preferred brand I would buy them.I strop clean/dry my blades after use, they last several more uses that way for me. again others will tell you don't do this, single use only. so don't do this...LOOKS; I mean, they all pretty much look the same to me, except that feather clip-on looks pretty modern. Otherwise; they are all the same to me. in the high price range you may get a nicer handle, or a two tone. OOHHHHHH. but performance will not change. only preference.
