Lincoln: His Speeches and Writings

If you're new to Lincoln studies and you've just picked up "Team of Rivals" and are starting to get a lot little lost about what Lincoln said when this a first class resource. His letters, speeches and other written material are here. Basler is one of the foremost Lincoln scholars of all time. Lincoln wrote for the common man and his writings are easy to read. Here you see both the private and the public. This is one of the most widely cited works on Lincoln, but one of the most accessible.

I really enjoyed this book. Very well detailed with accounts of Lincolns various speeches and writings. Easy to understand and very well put together. This is a must have book for any fan of Lincoln. You should also have this book handy because you will reference this work often.

I got this book to better understand the man and the time period. How else to do this than by actually getting his own words. Love the idea of just picking up the book and reading his letters to whomever. I am a big history buff and its so cool to read pretty much everything he ever wrote. No one distorting history, or trying to put words in his mouth. Should be required reading for all H.S. students.

For the lover of historical documents, 19th C. US History, the US Civil War, and of course- Our Greatest President: Abraham Lincoln. I have the physical book as well, which I read many years ago. I wanted to reread it during my long daily commute to NYC without carrying the extra weight. It's great!

Excellent collection of documents.

I really like the insight at the beginning since it really helped me understand the writings more. The book was very thick, about 2 and a half inches thick.

Interesting read, so many speeches to look at Lincoln's accomplishments.
