Warpath: The True Story of the Fighting Sioux Told in a Biography of Chief White Bull (Bison Book S)

This is an excellent book. It gives you one of the only autobiography's of a Sioux Indian warrior. Chief White Bull was a nephew of Chief Sitting Bull and considered one of the great Sioux warriors of that time. Today with the change in historical honesty where the truth is changed to fit modern ideas this book gives you a real insight into what it was like to grow up in a Sioux village and face the dangers of that period. Chief White Bull was one of the men of that tribe that would not hesitate to attack a blood enemy like a Crow or a Blackfoot, man women or child. He would defend his tribe unto death. However, he was generous to his own people in food, clothing and shelter. He had the warrior spirit of great bravery and traveled many thousands of miles to practice the art of the warrior. The art of the warrior was stealing from someone ( not of the Sioux, Cheyenne or Arapahoe tribes ) without being caught and killing without being killed. He had a scalp shirt with many scalps and his lodge held many items obtained from many raids. He gives some great descriptions on the Battle of the Little Big Horn ( the battle did not last longer then it takes a hungry man to eat his meal ) and the Fetterman Massacre where the Indians mainly used bow and arrows. When a party of Sioux went out looking for trouble and ran into a group of travelers not of their tribe those people were going to have a bad day. Kurt Seraphine

A wonderful story told by a relative of the chief that the biography is about. A great way to get to know this tribe of Indians straight from a reliable source. I think this would be a great book to have in either grammar schools or junior high, to get children to begin to understand the truth that has been ignored for well over 150 years!

A very accurate description of life among the Sioux. A must read for all high school students.

I read this book years ago and when I found myself in the process of writing the biography of another Sioux man, it rang a bell. In fact, Chief White Bull wasn't one of the most famous and well known Indian chiefs. Opposite, very few knew of his story until this book was published. The author depicts the Sioux Way of life through the personal quest of a warrior, enticing the reader to wish for more. The historical research is accurate and the writing style entertaining. I would recommend it.

A true accounting of an Indian Chief of the Sioux tribe. The story is most interesting and educational. It provides a true accounting of life at the time. I would certainly recommend the book.

It was great to read a book that actually came from the person that lived it; White Bull. He should have been as well known as Sitting Bull and many other warriors, because of his fierce attributes. He was a very brave leader of his people.

A well written history of this proud and warlike people. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, written by one of the pioneers of this subject.

The book does provide some interest, however I have a long standing interest in Native Americans and have read better books relating to an individual Native American's biography. The plus point is, Chief White Bull was involved in the major Sioux / US Army conflicts.
