The ability to turn of the magnetic field makes them easy to clean
I work as a welder in a small fab shop, and I have found the magswitch products indispensable for my work. I purchased both the 165 and the 400, and use them routinely for set up work. The 400 is too strong and creates too much of a field to weld near, so it is used primarily to stablize pieces a couple of feet from where I'm running a bead. The 165 can be used in fairly close proximity to the weld area, as the field is not as strong. These models are not designed for high heat applications so I have to be careful how close they are to the bead, and how much heat I'm running. I usually work with thin wall square tubing so it's not that much of an issue as the heat isn't cranked up that high. I do a lot of metal cutting and grinding as well, and they help hold pieces when clamps are not possible or effective. The ability to turn of the magnetic field makes them easy to clean. They aren't cheap, but if you work with metal on a daily basis, they are worth the money. Great product!

Small but strong.
My first impression when opening the box was that these things were dinky. I've been using Magswitch's base and Jig 150's for a while so expected these "dinky" magnets to be strong too. They are. They have an amazing hold. For those that complain about them slipping, the answer is simple: Place something that won't slip between the magnet and the metal base they attach to. Simple and effective. They slide because it's steel on steel. No friction. A piece of paper will increase the friction dramatically. Painting the magnet base with a latex paint will also do the trick.

Amazing but not as strong as i expectes
They are a lot smaller than you think they are, holding force of 150 sounds like a lot but its not as much as i expected, i have 5 of these at the moment and use them every single day at work as a weldet fabricator. I will be ordering 5 more of these soon as well as 4 of the 400 pound verson of the multi angle (without the ground clamp)1-10 ratingsStrength- 6Ease of use- 10Cost to usefulness- 10I would say you need like 6 of these minumum if you work as a fabricator, i have 5 and 1 of the mini angle (that hold 50 pounds) and need at least 5 or so more but can get by with 6.Hope you enjoyed the rant 🤘

Great for light duty improvised fixturing
Purchased these for my home shop after using the larger versions at work for machining/fabricating/quality control fixturing. Functions exactly like its larger counterparts and is just as durable. Keep in mind the hold pressure that this rated to; it's not going to hold heavy parts or sheet steel thicker than 11ga without some extra support. Great for tac welding.

good and fun
it is pretty good, but I would recommend going with a poundage hold strength that is double what you expect to need. This one is not holding what I hoped it would, even though it is meeting the specification

Every person should have one or two in his or her workshop
Talk about a powerful little magnet. I purchased two to hold metal patches in place for welding. What I like most about the magnets, is the off and on switch. Most magnets collect metal particles that build up and gum up the magnetism. By turning the switch off, it releases all built up debris. I wish I had bought these years ago.

A must for welders
This is a much needed tool for welders. The beauty is the ability to turn on and off the magnetic force. Was great for positioning materials to be welded and the strength is incredible.

Not a Returnable Item
Not a Returnable Item Please be aware that Amazon classifies this item as a dangerous item and does not allow returns. This is not stated on the item's description. Hopefully Amazon or the merchant will update the listing to clearly state this. This magnetic hold-down was not strong enough for my purposes on thinner material. On both 1/4" thick and 3/8" thick plate it seemed to exhibit its advertised hold-down force.
