Pure Lye Drain Opener, 1 Lb 2-Pack

I’ve tried multiple drain cleaners with no success. A month after struggling with backed up drains that even the snake could reach - I decided to try this after reading the internet. It was simple: before bed, I ran hot water in the shower, bathroom sink, kitchen sink - then made 4 cups worth and evenly distributed amongst the 3 and left them overnight. In the morning I couldn’t believe it, the drains were completely cleared out. It’s been almost 3 weeks and the drains work perfectly.Just make sure to wear some nitrile gloves that you can throw out (defeats the purpose if you get some on your hands and have to use the sink the rinse them off, further diluting the solution) - also open the windows to air it out. I did that then immediately left the rooms.

We have been using this product for many years and it always works exceptionally well to clear the drains. And 2 of us have long shedding hair!

I live on the third floor of an extremely old home with absolutely horrendous pipes. The bathtub is extremely prone to backing up, and no amount of Draino or Liquid Plumber works. The handyman even tried sulfuric acid once and it didn't remove the clog. This lye, however, does the trick. I take a hot shower (to warm up the pipes), let the water slooooowly drain, and then pour about 2/3 of a bottle of this lye down the drain. This stuff is very caustic, so take basic precautions like gloves and opening a window for ventillation (although in my experience it doesn't violently bubble or off-gas). There will be a sizzling/rumbling noise in your pipes as it eats through the clog. If not all of the lye goes down, run a small bit of water to help it down. Wait about 10 minutes and then pour boiling water down the pipe. You should be good to go. If not, I wait a day and then use the rest of the bottle, which always does the trick.The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that, for me at least, the fix isn't permanent. I have to do it about once every month or month and a half. That may just be my pipes though (I have never lived in a place with such horrible plumbing).

Product does not give a bad regular smell. Works perfectly fine .Normally i leave it for couple of hours and then pour hot water.

Works better than the name brands found in your brick and mortar store. I've used the common household brand that starts with a D...it works fairly well but would have to use more frequently than this pure lye. It works so well I won't go back to the other kind. I purchased extra so I always have some on hand.-Used on bathroom sink and tub drain to remove long hair, hair from two german shepherds, and typical scum build up-Used on the kitchen drains to remove grease buildup*we regularly clean the bathroom drains, but hair still manages to find its way into the lower parts of the plumbing and after a time it builds up causing the water to drain slowly and sometimes resulting in water back up. Following the directions on the bottles we soon had clear drains in short order.**Depending on how bad your clog is, an extra bottle may be necessary.

I’ve experimented with all the top brands of drain cleaners. With the exception of a mechanical snake or drain auger, Pure Lye, when used as directed, is quicker and cleaner than any I’ve tried.The first time I used this stuff was in my bathroom sink. Having been born with an affliction that compels me to believe that all written instructions need to be - and should be - tweaked in order to achieve the best results, I used boiling water instead of hot water. After all, the instructions didn’t say how hot the hot water should be.When I followed the Lye with boiling water, my plumbing began gurgling and churning like a B-movie dinosaur with an intestinal virus. For a moment, I was afraid it might throw up on all over me. Fortunately, that was not the case. In a matter of seconds, my drain plumbing was as clean as if it had been prepped for a plumbing colonoscopy.What works best for me is to allow the lye to sit in the hot drain for 1 minute and then follow with scalding water (not boiling). A 32-ounce Styrofoam cup in my microwave on high for 3 minutes works perfectly.I hate standing in standing water when I’m taking a shower. Pure Lye is a quick fix.Slaughter houses use lye and scalding water to burn the hair off of hogs during processing. It works for them. This visual image haunts me every time I eat a BLT.
