A crazy perspective
Brings to light the need for more mental health care and screening. Majority are not violent but the pain is internal and real to them. Such a well written book

Gives some insight to schizophrenia from a kids point of view who KNOWS he has the disease
I liked the movie better, which is something I usually do not say. The book is written well, my son has schizophrenia and is, like most, not violent; but he lacks insight. He does not believe he is sick. He will not take medicine unless someone says LSD will help him. Nami did not help me, I saw people like me only 25 years older and still taking care of their loved ones. It was the most depressing day, including the fact I had just sent him to yet another hospital stay against his will The weight gain is never shown in schizophrenia books or movies, it is real and very hard on all patients who take medicines. I am broken hearted and glad this mother could be so loving and kind. We deal with angry voices and lots of religion and being cursed out and verbally abused daily. There is no cure, no place for them to live, he cannot take care of himself, and again not one place he could live in our state or any state near us, unless you count the places that cost 32,000 per month, that is correct, per month. They also must agree to attend, since my son does not know he is sick he would never agree. I wanted him to watch the movie with me , but he can’t do much for more than 30 seconds. He can not work, He used to be able to help but now he refuses. Adam is a lucky character, knowing ( which is called “insight”) is something that allows the patient to take meds. Most only work 18 months and then you must make a change and their are terrible side effects, weight gain, cloudiness, sluggishness, sleeping a lot, more voices etc. It is a hard road and I appreciate an author who at least addressed this disease in the best way she knew how.I only wish they would show the ugly side of how it effects family, siblings, and the pain of losing a child to a disease with no cure, no hope and a short life span. But please read the book if you. know anyone who has a mental illness. Most are very nice and violent people area usually not mentally ill in this sense, they are actually violent people who act on their ideas.

A MUST BUY
Words On Bathroom Walls is BY FAR one of the greatest books I’ve ever read.We follow our schizophrenic protagonist Adam through his journey in a new drug trial as he tried is navigate Junior in a private catholic K-12 school while blocking out the voices and faces only he sees. Oh and he might fall in love along the way.I would like to note that I am not schizophrenic nor is anyone in my life (that I’m aware of) so I really cannot comment on the way the book portrays the disorder. In the authors note Julia Walton states that, “Adam’s experience is loosely based on documented symptoms of schizophrenia, but a great deal of creative license was taken to describe his auditory and visual hallucinations.” Although I’m sure she did research it is clear the disorder is romanticized in the novel. This might bother some people, some it might not. I didn’t let it affect how I saw the book because I chose to look at it through a 100% fiction lense. Now on with the review...(don’t worry, no major spoilers!! Nothing more than the inside cover would tell you)The book is written in journal form from Adam’s perspective. He is such a lovable character. Although it’s tough to read about the challenges he’s facing, it’s worth it in the end. His hallucinations range from scary to hilarious. My favorite was Rebecca and you’ll see why when you read. Adam’s mom is such a fiercely strong character that you are sure to fall in love with. Maya is everything though. Their unconventional love story is everything you need. As an obsessed over romance novels, I was growing tired of the same format being used time and time again. It made books too predictable. Julia Walton flips this on it’s head. the primary focus of the book was Adam’s life NOT his romance with Maya which a refreshing change.None of these characters fit your stereotypes and as you are reading you will feel them come alive and out of the pages. The novel transported me to another world. I told myself I would take it slow with this book because I’ve been burning through them at rapid paces but within one day I had finished the entirety of it.This novel surpasses All Our Broken Pieces to take it’s place as my favorite book.I would definitely recommend as it’s the best purchase I’ve made in my life.

10/10 WOULD RECCOMEND!!! 100% AMAZING NO COMPLAINTS!!!
I bought this book used as a hard cover for the price of a paper back and let me just tell you:the condition was IMPECCABLE!!!No puppy dog corners, no writing, no torn or wrinkled pages. You would think I bought it right off the self. the only thing that gave it away is that there was a school library stamp on the top of the pages, which doesn’t bother me at all.As for the story, let’s just say i couldn’t put it down, and the only reason i did was because i was on a family vacation and was forced to participate it activities, i could have finished this book in probably 3 hours, it took me 3 days. the beginning hooks you, the middle engrossing, and the ending is finished but somehow still leaves you wanting more. ugh this book is amazing! 10/10 WIULD DEFINATELY TLY RECCOMEND!Its an amazing YA novel that canbe bought for pretty cheap and amazing condition. I love it so much. I’m a pretty big reader, but the first 100pages are very important to me, if i’m not excited to read the story i’m gonna wanna quite, this book took me probably the first ten pages to get into. The descriptions of what the main character sees captures exactly how he feels towards his hallucinations. Obviously, Rebecca is my favorite. It’s both scary and exciting and keeps you on edge reading this book. There are a few big terms in there that are considered medical terms, I asked my mom for help on and afterwards I went straight back into my book. So if your in the age of 12-16 I definately recommend!

A great read, good quality
The book is amazing. It does a really great job at describing what being a schizo feels like.Although the cover of the book was not the same as shown above ( which I was really mad about because who doesn't want a charlie Plummer cover book) but except for that the paper quality was quite nice. And the text size was also perfect.

An emotional read
I wasn't sure at first how I would feel about the diary-entry style of writing, as other reviewers had mentioned they disliked it, but once I got into the plot, I barely even noticed it. The diary entries are frequent enough so that nothing important is missed, and I loved how Adam's personality came across in them. This book was surprisingly relatable and portrayed a really interesting depiction of schizophrenia. The plot kept me hooked from start to finish and the way it ended made me so emotional with Maya talking to Adam about Rebecca (no spoilers though!).A really enjoyable read overall and I'd definitely recommend it.
