ORICO 2.5 Inch Dual Hard Drive Enclosure USB 3.0 Type C Hard Disk Caddy for 2 x 2.5" SATA III HDD and SSD - 12V/2A Power Adapter

This enclosure is being used to attach 2 SSD drives to a NAS server - and it works well. The server it is attached to can only manage 360MB/s on its USB bus on a good day, and I was able to achieve and maintain this speed without any issues (180MB/s in parallel). The title of this product states it comes with a 12V 2A adaptor but it doesn't. The adaptor is 5V 2A (this is confirmed on the manufacturers web site). As another reviewer pointed out, this can be a little limiting as to the drives you can install in this device. All SSDs and almost all modern HDDs designed for laptops should work just fine. It's probably best to look at the specification of any HDDs you intend to install though - especially pay attention to the inrush current. Spinning disks can draw a lot of power at spin up time - and high performance 7200rpm drives will require 1A for a few seconds and that's per drive. The power adaptor also needs to power the controller, so there's only 1.6/1.7A left for both drives (maximum).

Pretty simple to use, play and play given that your drives are pre partitioned, if not a simply disk utility run can partion drives for you. It takes 2 drives pretty comfortably, I have 2 1tb Seagate Barracuda drives installed and they both work perfectly.Aesthetics side of things it's very nice, especially with the included stand. I have 2 HDD's so they vibrate whenever you read and write but if you wanted something a little more silent I'd simple add 2 SSD's instead

This product does what it says on the tin i.e. You can place 2 x 2.5in HDD's or SSD's within the chassis and each drive will be recognised by whatever O/S you are using at the time. I like to use both Windows 10 and Ubuntu and this works in both O/S's. The unfortunate thing about this is that if you want to use both Disk's as a whole disk you will have to use Windows 10 Storage Spaces or Ubuntu MDADM of which neither is recognisable by each other. I then done some internet research on this enclosure and discovered that Orico does manufacture a version of this enclosure with RAID which would solve the problem. So I thought I would purchase the RAID version but to my horror Amazon does not sell the RAID version of this enclosure. I can purchase direct from Orico or from Aliexpress but it wouldn't arrive till next year. Hence the 4 stars, if it had been the RAID version I would have given it 5 stars.

I bought this as I have several Orico USB enclosures and this would allow me to use a pair of Samsung 2TB drives I had from a previous CalDigit enclosure. The enclosure is the typical Orico design where the cover slides off for the drive to be inserted. These were extremely stiff to remove and more so once the drives were installed. Once connected and powered up it was clear that the enclosure PSU wasn't delivering enough to power both drives. The description states 2a of power available and both these drives are rather at 0.85a however with both drives connected one or both drives would continually power cycle. Either drive connected singly worked fine in either port. Perhaps suitable for SSDs but not for mechanical drives. EDIT: I should point out that both of these drives worked with no problems in Orico *bus* powered enclosures

Used the drive encloure for 2 drives from redundant laptops.Excellent product.One enancement would be the option with the On Off Switch to be permanently On so that powering up could be dictated by the power source. Covers are a little stiff & position of drive needs to be precise. Probably prevents vibrations.It's superb and I will be buying more.

Installed a hybrid drive into it, powered it on, boom, big shock and fried my hard drive, all my data on it lost. Took ages to recover from my back. On the plus side made purchase a synology so have a proper NAS with much more robust data protection compared to a usb connected drive.

Plugged in my hard drives OK. Build quality seems fine. But when plugged into the PC, all the lights come on but the computer did not recognise any drives or even that it was plugged into the USB. Returned for a refund.
