This book is a joy to read. The essays make this easy to read during free moments. The memories ring true to me.

The late Brian Doyle was a as gracious as his authorial voice captured here. The book offers a tour of a big life through the small intricacies of a simple game. Basketball is the conceit, the subject is humanity, humility, and grace

Hoop is a wonderful journey through a great game and delivers as always by Doyle in breath taking (literally) prose.

I just ordered this book and can't wait to read it. Not only was I a big b'ball fan, I spent many an hour playing with and against the author while we were in HS. I'm curious if I will recognize any of the stories he will tell in this book. I wish I had the opportunity to reconnect with him. We lost touch with each other in the late 70's and I never got the chance to tell him that he was an important part of my life b/c of a very small and very Brain act of kindness that he probably didn't even realize he was performing. RIP Brian.
