Judgment in Death: In Death, Book 11

4-stars: 'Judgment in Death' by J.D. Robb
Judgment in Death is the eleventh book in J.D. Robb’s In Death series. J.D. Robb amazes me with her storytelling and making my emotions go crazy in each of the books in the In Death series. This book was one of those that put me through the wringer, but for different reasons than previous books. It did take me a while to read this book, but that’s due to the holidays.Storyline/My Thoughts: Eve Dallas has her hands full again, but this time with a cop being bludgeoned to death at a strip joint called Purgatory. When there’s another cop killed after the first cop, then Even knows someone is targeting cops. It’s up to her and her team to determine the motive behind the cops’ murders and why they are being targeted. Eve will start unraveling something that will put her in danger and put her in the path of someone in Roarke’s past. J.D. Robb played with my emotions in this book with the tension between Roarke and Eve. Not only because of Roarke’s past associate, he used to work with, but with Eve’s past showing up and almost causing issues. This is when readers will see another side of Roarke that is scary because he will show his possessive side. It even surprises Eve. Eve was clueless, though at first, and mad at Roarke for the way he was acting. Does she not realize Roarke will do anything for her and he loves her?Each case that Eve Dallas and her team have to investigate gets more complicated, it seems. J.D. Robb does not make it easy for anything in this fictional world. I figured out who was behind everything in the book, eventually, but it didn’t stop me from reading. This book was difficult to read due to certain scenes in it. Eve made me mad in this book with how she reacted to certain things. One of them being how Roarke stepped in to help her. She didn’t like him going behind her back. Roarke has his reasons, though, and I don’t blame him.Standalone or Part of Series: Part of Series, and I recommend reading in order. Otherwise, you will miss out on how Eve and Roarke met and how some other characters came about in the series.Would I recommend this book? Yes. I can’t say enough how much I’m enjoying this series from J.D. Robb. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense and Thrillers, then this book/series is for you. Don’t be intimidated by the number of books. I’m participating in the #InDeathReadALong challenge hosted by @PNRBookLoverReviews and @UTCBookBlog, which has helped me get through the series one book at a time. I plan on reading more in 2021 because I want to catch up on this series. I need to know where J.D. Robb has taken Roarke and Eve. I also want to know about the secondary characters.Overall, this book gets four stars from me, and I’m ready to dive into the next book. J.D. Robb, please, have Eve and Roarke go on vacation, eventually. They need some time away from the cop world for a bit.

A Series Review! {NO Spoilers}
4.5 stars!After basically years of seeing this series around and reading about this mystical Roarke, I gave in and decided to read the In Death Books. It was quite an undertaking, since when I started there were 33 books already released in the series, not counting short stories and novellas. Besides that, deciding to read this series was a big commitment in two fronts. One, I simply had to by 33 books and secondly, I would not be reading anything else until I was done. That's how psychotic I can be when it comes to book series.December 2011 was when my journey began and by February 2012 I was done and now there is NO turning back. I am IN LOVE with this series! I not only obviously love Roarke, but I love Eve and all the secondary characters that make up this great story as well.Yes, I have become irritated with Eve at times, but I adored being able to see her grow throughout the series. It has been quite a ride, but one I will never regret hopping aboard.This series is a great mix of mystery, police drama and romance. I love every aspect of it, from the near futuristic setting, to the way J.D. Robb writes her prose. If there is one thing that bothers me, is that considering the series has 35 books published, the span of time that has passed is very short and I wish the lapse between books was a bit longer. But if you read the books throughout a longer period of time, it won't really matter, but reading them so close together made me wish for that longer lapse.Eve is such a complex character. All that she has been through has made who she is, but her story is not less heartbreaking because of it. For that matter, so is Roarke's and the fact that these two found each other is nothing less than serendipity. They need each other and I am sure they would never have grown to be who they are in the series by book 35, if not for each other's presence in their lives. Not to mention the "family" they have built with their dear friends.One of the biggest issues brought up in this series by J.D. Robb, is the Nature Vs. Nurture debate. I love it! It always makes me think and it is very satisfying to see these people that could have become something very wrong, rise above nature and blood, to become amazing people.On the crime fighting aspect of the series, I find that Robb uses two types of narrative. Sometimes she carries more of a "Monk" style, where the perpetrator is clear if not early on, but soon. The other one is where we get a punch in the face when we finally find out out who it is. I really enjoy that she doesn't have only one style, since that always keeps me guessing =DI LOVE this series and if you have yet to check it out, please do so! The first few books might not compel you completely, but keep reading! You won't regret it!

In Death book 11
This instalment of the In Death series sees Eve trying to hunt down a cop killer, someone is targeting policemen and they all seem to be linked to a failed case against notorious gangster Max Ricker, someone who also happens to be an ex-associate of Roarke's. The deeper Eve digs the more trouble she finds, it appears that the policemen who were murdered may have been dirty but what remains to be seen is how deep the corruption goes and who the next target might be. Eve needs to stop a killer but she's also determined to sniff out anyone who has been on the take and she wants to put Ricker in prison where he belongs. She's going to have to work fast because Ricker has a grudge against Roarke and he now thinks targeting Eve is the perfect way to get back at his old associate.The second a member of the police is murdered the entire police force pulls together to get justice for one of their own. The heat is on to solve the case quickly but as Eve starts investigating the officers involved she gets more than a few backs up from people unwilling to believe the victims were dirty. Now finds herself in the impossible situation of investigating colleagues, people who should uphold the law not break it, and it's an extremely uncomfortable situation to be in. Roarke's connection to her main suspect makes things even more complicated but that's something she should be getting used to now, he has his fingers in so many pies it's hard to find a case that doesn't touch him in some way or another.Their relationship has always been really strong but they're both pretty messed up in their own ways and this book is the first time we see them at odds with each other. They have a pretty bad fight that leaves them both reeling and it was quite a shock to see such a distance between them. It was easy to see where they were both coming from though and I think they both learned a lot about themselves and each other thanks to the fight. The making up was pretty epic too so that was worth falling out for! I think they're a fantastic couple so I'm glad that they're still growing and evolving as the series continues. I'm still totally loving this series and I'm planning to dive into the next book as soon as possible, it's a good job I order several books at a time because I can't seem to stop binging on them lately!

Another Great "In Death" Book!
I'm addicted to Robb's "In Death" series. I am currently reading book Number 21 ("Origin in Death") and my husband is currently on Number 14 ("Reunion in Death"). You would think in writing so many books with the same characters (Eve and Roarke and their friends), Robb would start to get repetitive. But, each book is fresh and brings something new and exciting. Books should be read in order, however, as one book does refer to the previous one.J. D. Robb also writes under Nora Roberts. I had always avoided Nora Roberts' novels, thinking they were just "romantic fluff" books. Now that I have read her work, however, I will check out some of her other books...AFTER I have finished all 36 "In Death" books, of course.

Facinating murder stories
these books are amazing to read with Eve the detective and husband Roake-the rich helpful husband- helping the downtrodden, victimised, murdered subjects. Includes imagined modern day uses of computers/ weapons- reminds me of I think it was Jules Verne and submarines, becoming new weapons of war, totally fascinating solving problems that could be encountered in our modern day world - with dishonesty/manipulation etc in public places. and breakdown of systems of law and order/greed related from country to country I think

You need to read them all; or your loss!
I've read all 64 (so far) of these books. Plus short stories; three times over. They are like a drug. Once started you can't stop. Cry on one page and laugh out loud on the next. They are the best ever.
