Almost perfect with some minor non-essential flaw
Overall a very solid safe.============Pros===============Lock:Love the mechanic lock which has reasonable complexity and much more reliable than electronics. Anybody fear that your fancy mechnical safe just dies silently some day surprise you when you need it at a life or death situation? This safe perfectly mitigates that concern.Sturdiness:The best I've seen in a pistol safe. Very heavy and solid. The edge is re-enforced and has some overlap with the inner part which makes it way harder to blunt force open comparing to other smaller safe.Space:Because it's a bigger safe than most pistol safe, you have a good amount of space inside. You can easily fit 2 pistols and some mags inside even with the 2 layers of foam that comes with it. You can even fit more and thicker pistols if removing 1 layer.===================Cons================Looks:Looks somewhat old school and less sexy comparing to other modern electronic safes. But I'm not bothered by it as look is the last item on my list when choosing a safe. And I get used to it pretty fast once you are used to it. It's pros kind of compensate for this too.Quality control:This is the only part that prevents me from saying this is a perfect purchase. The one I got has some paint off inside the safe at the bottom. Looks like something got in the way during the painting process. Also, there are some really sharp and weird looking spot close to the hinge which might hurt your hand if you are not careful. And it looks unpleasant. For this price, I would expect it to has more reasonable quality in the details and finish. Maybe I just got unlucky. However, for this kind of non-essential defects, it's not worth my time to contact customer service and get an exchange.================Summary===============Super solid safe that does the job perfectly. But expect some minor flaws on the finish if you got unlucky. If you are okay with the imperfection in the finish if it happens, buy it. If not, make sure you are okay with spending time contacting customer service on a non-function related flaw. I still recommend buying it overall.

Good Value and Security for Under $300
What can I say? Fort Knox makes Quality Products and this is no exception. I spent over 6 months researching gun 'vaults', RSC Containers and Safes, so I am very picky when it comes to storing my firearms in a manner that secures them from my son/his friends, and from the occasional guest. I actually considered a Fort Knox Vault but went with a TRTL 30x6 25 cu foot VAULT (if you know the difference between Safes, RSC Containers and VAUTS, you will know what this is...and how expensive and HEAVY they are...over 2 tons unloaded)So, I was equally diligent in choosing small/medium pistol Safes...I decided on purchasing x2 of these, one for upstairs on a nightstand and one downstairs, by a door (also on a cheap stand).Pros:1) Very sturdy...some of the best gauge steel for this type of small/medium pistol storage container;2) Easy access with a simple x2 button, x1 button combo which can be somewhat easily changed from factory pre-set;3) Easily stores my 1911 .45 ACP, plus x3 mags and Sig 9mm plus x3 mags...and I mean Easily.4) NO BATTERIES that will fail;5) NO biometric fingerprint scanner that NEVER works 100% of the time.Cons:1) Does not offer as 'fast' firearm access as some of the far more expensive pistol cases....takes about 2-3 seconds to open from waking up;2) Very heavy and SMOOTH....if you place it on a smooth surface, it WILL slide around and when the lid opens, it can slide several inches and add precious seconds to your firearm access time, besides being a pain in the butt.....if placing on a smooth surface, it needs velcro or some sort of anti-skid material on the bottom ... or you can do what I did...buy 2 inexpensiveheavy night stand tables and use the pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the safes and screw it directly to the surface. I like that you can remove the foam inserts ... I left my upstairs Safe with all the foam in it, which leaves less room, but I only have my 9 mm Sig and x3 mags in it and no other pistols. If you are looking for a push button pistol safe, this is definitely worth looking at. Many of the other RSC containers are made with cheap and thin gauge metals and the locking mechanism can be picked open with a screwdriver or jarred open by simply dropping the safe. While not cheap, it is by no means overpriced...I believe you get exactly what you pay for. This is NOT a Vault but neither is it a cheap RSC Container or even worse (I won't mention names, buy everyone knows the stacking :-) ).

Check the directions
One set of instructions had the process incorrect for how to change the combo. Looked it up elsewhere and the second process worked.

Made In USA! What more can i say!
I've been researching a long time trying to find the best handgun case that is of sturdy construction and can be used almost every day. Received it May 19th 2022 and was very pleased with it. Though i have not had it long I'm sure it will with stand the test of time.

Solid, reliable safe.
Main reason I went with this safe was to avoid an electronic unit which could result in dead batteries or a finger print scanner that doesn't register successfully every time. This safe is solid and seems to be built well. The Fort Knox locking mechanism is reliable and easy to use. The buttons register easily and provide decent feedback, meaning they let you know that your entry took. The knob seems very fragile which makes me a little nervous. The instructions say that this is by design- the knob will break if someone is trying to turn it without entering the right code. Still, it seems too weak and that maybe it could break inadvertently when rushing to open the safe in the heat of the moment.Lastly, there is the price. In my eyes, it is quite expensive for what it actually is. There are similar simplex lock gun safes that are around the same price or a little bit cheaper. From that perspective, I guess the Fort Knox is competitively priced. While it's expensive, keeping my guns secure from my kids and also quickly accessible in the time of need make it relatively worth it. A part of me wishes I went with the other reputable American brand that has a handle on the unit. Would be convenient to be able to carry the safe with one hand or pull it out from the drawer I keep it in using a handle. In any case, I anticipate this Fort Knox safe will last a lifetime, so I have no hesitation in recommending it. Just be careful with the knob!
