Excellent first for author
This is a story about Olympic Equestrian riders. I found the subject bothinteresting and different. One I've not run across in lesfic. I'm not sayingit's not out there, just saying that I haven't seen it.The rest of the story is pretty standard lesfic fare. Skyler Reese wasblacklisted as a rider so now she works as a trainer. Jessica Black was severelyinjured in a jumping accident. Her horse was also injured and had to beeuthanized. Now Jessica has a new stallion and she is determined to make the Olympic teameven though her injuries haven't healed. She heads to the Equestrian TrainingCenter owned by her mother's ex, Kate Parker. Kate and Jessica have amother/daughter relationship. Hence, Kate warns Sky to stay away from Jessica.Sky is a womanizer with a love `em and leave `em history. But predictably, eventhough they try, the attraction is too strong for either woman to stay away fromthe other for very long. The story moves at a quick pace with enough action and questions to hold thereader's interest. Surprisingly, everything isn't wrapped up with a nice bigbow. It's not a completely happy ending. Yes, in the end the girl gets the girlbut the other main issue doesn't have such a happy outcome.I definitely recommend this book. It was a quick read with a good plot, interesting characters and good writing. This is the author's first book. Shehas written a spin-off called "Longshot" featuring the female veterinarian from"Bareback". It's sitting on my book wall, and I'll be reading it soon.

A good read
While the story line was predictable, the subject matter touched on areas not usually visited. Having spent many years on the 3-day circuit myself, I was pleased to see that someone had "discovered" it as a background. Anyone who has competed in these events knows the chances we take and the serious injuries that can be the result so it gives the story a picture of reality. The additional subplots involving the Youth Program added a great deal. It was a fun book to spend an afternoon with! In the "for what it's worth" department I would LOVE to see the author use this as an outline for a longer, more detailed publication. The later is not meant as a criticism but more as a "wish." Good job DJL! I, for one, want more.

Excellent
This book is one of a sort of "series" that this author has written. I love the characters and I love the storyline. I'm not much of a horse person but I didn't find any of the horsey stuff boring or detracting in any way. A very good love story. I recommend the entire series.

Mediocre story.
Not much character development. Predictable story line. Doesn't take long for main characters to fall in love. Would not recommend this book for serious readers.

Engrossing
Very well written. Make sure to have a lot of spare time to relax and read, because once you start, you won't want to put it down.

Horse world fans, this is your book.
Bareback is a fun, easy read - the usual girl-meets-girl. It's sweet and very gripping about halfway through. I won't lie that the end dragged for me, but then again, I had read the sequel before I read this one, so it spoiled a little bit. It's not Leigh's best book, but it still is better than a lot of the other ones that I have read. If you are a fan of the horse world, I would definitely recommend - it's like a good chick flick. Leaves you feeling happy and smiley.
