America's Deserts: Guide to Plants and Animals (America's Ecosystems) Paperback – January 1, 1996

As someone who makes books for a living, I have to strongly disagree with the negative review left for America's Deserts. It could not be more neatly laid out and organized. The information is thorough without being overwhelming. It is a perfect combination of text, gorgeous illustration and facts. The Resources and List of Common Scientific Names are a nice touch too to dig deeper.My family has recently moved to the Mojave desert and this has been a wonderful resource for all of us ages 6-40. We have had it checked out of the library for several months and now I will be purchasing it. I will be also using the author's other books for our homeschooling nature studies.

Poorly laid out, very superficial, cheaply done. This book was a big disappointment. I should have returned it. A waste of money.

Being more oriented to water or mountain environments I found this beautifully illustrated field guide an eye opener. The layout is compelling and gives a good sense of the diversity of species in desert habitat I had not appreciated before. Intended for middle school I would imagine but a useful resource for all ages.
