The Bags Are Flawed but Pros Definitely Outweigh The Cons
4.5 Stars- I love this little guy! I say little but it is actually a size up from my previous compost container (the white ones that World Market sells that got broken in our move), but it is still appropriate to sit on top of the counter without looking like a full on garbage can. The most important thing to me as far as indoor compost containers is how well they do with the smell, and we have had zero issues with any odors. That being said part of what we compost are old coffee grinds which may help to some extent but the filters still do a really great job. What others have said is true, for some reason they have chosen to include non-biodegradable bags for whatever reason but that is really the only negative that I can tell. It has kept out the flies and kept in the odor, is roomy but still countertop sized, the color is true to the display and is as cute as a button. It even sidesteps the fatal flaw of my last compost bin which was that the lid was also ceramic so when it slipped and fell BOOM I was out $30, so that's a really great feature. Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and so is my garden which never gets a rest out here in SoCal, it's been worth every penny!***Did you find my review helpful? I hope so! I should have had one long ago
I wish I had one of these long ago. I used a regular small garbage can before I bought this, to empty sink strainers in after dishes, etc. The smell got to me and I saw this and purchased it. I was very unhappy with the bags that came with it, they were too small and kept falling in the can. What a mess. I purchased vegetables and saw the produce bag and decided to try it in the compost can, much better fit, a little big. I ordered the 16 x 12 produce bags from Amazon and they are the perfect size. They fit well around the top, around the handle knobs very snugly and are not too big. They did not think the bag size that they included with this can, it seems. The filters do help the smell and no flies gather around it. It is handy to grab it when I am chopping fruit and veggies. I am very satisfied with it, except with the bags that came with it, but I can always use them elsewhere. I would recommend this highly, just get extra bags when you buy your produce. I do like it and looks nice.

if only it was really airtight
>with Airtight Lidit's not airtight, and that's why it gets only three stars.if the lid actually was airtight, this would easily get five stars. aside from the lid not being airtight, this is a *great* compost bin. the metal is heavy-duty, the handle is well attached to the body and will not easily be broken off. the filter in the lid is a great feature that allows for odor absorption. and, of course, its size is awesome!all that being said, this holds over a gallon of rotting waste, and in between emptyings, it sits in our kitchen. and fruit flies get in there like ya wouldn't believe. i'm quite sure they're not getting in via the vent holes in the top, since the filter in the lid quite blocks their entrance. but, the lid does not create an airtight seal with the body of the bin, and that's where the flies are getting in. can't have that. especially can't have that when the product description explicitly says it's airtight :/

Beautiful and Functional Compost container
Beautiful and Functional. I have no problem with this container sitting on my kitchen counter -- it sure beats the coffee can we had! I love that I have this large, easy to carry container in an accessible place. It keeps the odors at bay and we have had no issues with insects. We usually empty it every 2-3 days depending on what we eat. We are a family of 6 (4 kids) and there are days that we have to empty that night! Still, I would say that it holds at least a full day or two worth of food scraps (the compostable type of course)The painted blue color has held up very well. For all the abuse we give it I figured the paint would have started to chip off. I examined it the other night while washing it out and it seemed to be in 'new' condition still!

Adorable and no smell
This is just as cute as it looks, so if you are debating on this one, just go ahead and get it.I recently purchased a Garden Tower 2 which has a built in compost in the middle. I wanted to start using the tube but I didn't want to, either, constantly have to run outside to dump scraps, or have compost stinking up the house. I am completely shocked that there is no ZERO smell. I put vegetable scraps, egg shells and coffee grounds. I know the picture looks gross, but it's full and it doesn't stink. The filters do their job.My Kitchen Maestro is just too cute. It's a definite win!

Good quality. My only complaint
Cute. Big but not too big. Good quality. My only complaint, and it is kind of disappointing, is that the compostable bags that come with it aren't tall enough to fit fully so it sags inside. So you get 50 free bags, but they kind of suck.

NOT Compost Bags - Recyclable
The item itself is very cute and seems very durable. However, the bags that come with it are not compost - or compostable - bags. They are plastic recyclable, which is a very different thing. Who wants to have to wash out plastic bags just to recycle them?! I'm disappointed.

Nice looking, a little difficult to use
Looks nice and seems to work well. Only complaint is the cover is hard to take off. I also wish the included bags were slightly longer to fold over side as the bag always slips down.
