Just wrong
Jeremy Rifkin needs to be made aware of reality..only 2 percent of world energy is from wind+solar.electricity is 40% of total energy in the U.S. yet renewable proponents claim a high percentage of electricity is from renewables. 80% of U.S. energy is from fossil fuels.. people who profit from renewable energy tell half truths. The actual output from a wind or solar farm is approximately 30% of nameplate capacity. It's never mentioned. A solar farm 5 square miles in size is needed to replace a 1gw power plant.Thinking technology+government to fix the climate crisis is stupid. The only way to gain ground is to shrink the economy.Lastly, the US has a shrinking share of world energy production/consumption so making drastic changes in a short time frame will do little but make energy costs skyrocket.

Rifken misses E=mc2
Interesting concept but the author is missing the basics of all infrastructureE=mc2I've worked on restructuring global networks - on the ground - for decadesAutos, energy, food, water, waste, internet, etcAll network ALWAYS have two simultaneous forms:1. Central Command2. User created "emergent"Both are always present. The ratio between them determines their survival. Rifken is missing the amount of command required to implement his fantasiesRifken is completely missing the fact that electrons at global scale need MASS, and decentralized grids need CENTRAL COMMAND MASS to organize their LOCAL EMERGENT gridsIf you fly an airplane into a Google or Amazon "cloud" data center, you will experience this mass directly. The same process is at work in your body. The decentralized emergent genomic activity is in constant motion, but collectively adds up to your real bodyRadio waves can only be generated and transmitted by central massIf you examine the lithium mines that create 1000 kilo Electric vehicle batteries you will experience one form of environmental damage of the Green New DealIf you follow the waste stream of 3 billion projected EV's you will experience more of this environmental wasteSo the book is a - barely - entertaining fantasyEasy to be a "consultant" and "theorist"Much harder to build, maintain, and recycle trillions of tons of mass required to operate a global

A primer on the issues, challenged and opportunities of the coming end of the era of fossil fuels
This is an important book. Hundreds of thousands of scientists, engineers , business people and governmental institutions have been working on and investing in the development of energy and transportation solutions stimulated by the needs deriving from the Saudi Oil Embargo of the ‘70’s, holes in the ozone from fossil fuel evaporative and combustion products, deadly combustion particulate exhaust particles brought to world attention by the VW diesel scandal and last but not least the understanding of the impact of global warming. Those efforts and investments, when combined with the Internet of Things is leading to an inevitable ending of the fossil fuel-combustion era for fundamental business-economic reasons...just as natural gas has essentially displaced coal because it is a better solution. Fossil fuels and combustion are being and will be displaced by more cost effective renewable wind and solar energy and by the combination of electricity and hydrogen from electrolysis (Hydricity). How we deal with this bubble bursting is the key question of the day.Jeremy Rifkin has been over many years involved globally in various efforts by countries, cities, regions and companies to both stimulate and manage this transition. His insights and experiences are particularly relevant as we navigate thru the consequences of this inevitable transition. The investment capital is available from many sources including pension funds. But the “stranded assets” implications are massive in terms of useless capital assets, workers with the wrong skill sets, old organizations and organizational structures not adapted to the new paradigms such as public utilities in an era of distributed generation, micro grids and smart grids. This all requires intelligent and informed involvement by all parties: government, business, investors , NGOs and individuals.Mr Rifkin proposes one framework for such involvement. He quickly adds this this is one of many such possible constructs. The importance of this book is it stimulates an understanding of the inevitable, and delves into the complexities involved working thru what will inevitably be a chaotic and painful transition to a better world. That the transition will happen is a given. That the world will be better is a given. How we collectively stimulate and manage the transition is the issue. This book is an important primer on the opportunities, issues and consequences involved, for the reader who wishes to be informed and hopefully involved in the ongoing , historic process...

Join the climate change movement!
This is a good book, it leads the cause to climate change policy and recognizes the economics behind green energy. For those that are not economists, scientists, researchers, investors this may begin to make sense but it’s really for higher level thinking. Bec it’s talking about future. It addresses issues about previous green deals and the fact that some governments will be behind. High costs don’t stay the same forever. One thing is for sure- green energy companies are profiting this year and those that don’t recognize the signs will be left behind in the “old world” thought process. The picture that I chose is from one of the endangered zones in the world: Costa Rica.

There is hope.....
Rifkin's prescience continues, this time with the most hopeful tome yet!A must read and ACT on analysis and set of realistic and doable actions that may just give us a chance at saving our species and many more on our little biosphere. After painfully revealing the sickness of current American leadership behaviours (Federally) (and as a Canadian, equally applying to our Western Provincial parallels - particularly Alberta, followed very closely by Saskatchewan and BC), his real world analyses and implementations from Europe to Chin a give me hope. Let's get peer assembling!

Very relevant and important green ideas explained
Excellent book. Very interesting and relevant. Hopefully the GND ideas can be trialled much more extensively globally, sooner rather than later.

Rifkin continues pioneer work in transforming 21st century society
If you appreciate and enjoy the technology revolution in planning modern society Jeremy Rifkin is part of and how it is progressing, this is a good follow up to previous works like The Third Industrial Revolution.

A book worth reading if you’re interested in future mega trends
Brings the facts to bare. Well researched and argued. Perhaps a little preachy and evangelical at times, but this is due to cultural differences (I am Australian and just want the facts and conclusions).
