Marked for Death: Islam's War Against the West and Me

We Must Stop Shooting The Messengers
It's a bit hard to quickly review this book without coming across as overtly bigoted, or staunchly judgmental (which I'm not), so I won't bother commenting much on the underlying themes presented within. Instead, I thought I'd try and detail why Geert Wilders message is an important example of how "politically correct" dogma has run amok in our society, and as a result of our collective rush to hyper-sensitivity the author suffered from mistaken identity. He has been wrongly overlooked, marginalized, tarred, feathered, and poorly assessed by so many.To begin, I only read this book after arguing against his politics with a few friends, having already prejudged Geert Wilders as a xenophobic, far-right bigot. I heard about Wilders as result of some sensationalist headlines, and was lazy enough to accept the media's word as the bottom line. So I judged him on a few sound bytes and wrote him off as a hate monger. Needless to say I was absolutely wrong. The message within "Marked For Death" is provocative, granted, but even with such a touchy and sensitive subject matter, once you can suspend the instinctive pull towards our culturally plural conditioning and look deeply at the nuanced and detailed message he makes regarding fundamentalist Islamic teachings and practices, his message is not at all bigoted. In fact this book ends up merely a practical assessment of certain problems prevalent within some minority Islamic sects, and how they are -by very nature- diametrically and violently opposed to our western ideals. Marked For Death really is an important critical assessment of traditionalist Islam that should spark reasonable and qualitative debate, especially considering the headlines of today. The problem Geert Wilders has comes from being foolish enough to speak out on such things. He is carrying a critically important message that he knew full well would cause great personal sufferance. Since his rise in Dutch politics he's taken many proverbial bullets for merely speaking out against a subculture of Moslem ideologues who truly are filled with hatred and totalitarian ideals. Because of this bravery he actually was marked for death from those he speaks against; but more insidiously, he has been viciously reviled, maligned, and his message summarily excluded from debate by the very people he's trying so hard to warn. That is so very wrong, on so very many levels. This topic should be a very relevant discussion to all of us, so why do we shoot the messenger? You see, it's not that his message is isolationist or bigoted at all. The problem is that the western world is now so hyper-sensitized to protect it's "cultural plurality" at all costs that our judgement comes automatically, preempting any careful analysis of facts, sometimes in place of facts. This is an objective failing, created and fueled by the implementation of politically correct boundaries that are both impractical and outright dangerous. Such willful ignorance allows that we might overlook problems and an ethnocentric ideology that should be dead easy to spot and even easier to disengage from or otherwise classify as dangerous and incendiary. In short, this man has a worthy point that should induce pragmatic thoughtful debate, and not lead to the summary judgments we see now, judgments that only serve to shut down thoughtful consideration, and as a result help the very cause of a hateful and violent perversion of religion.I'll even go slightly further: People of a western political/philosophical leaning almost always reach for the "politically correct", pluralistic pull cord, even in the face of cold hard facts, and even at the expense of objective reality. We have been conditioned to feel repulsed at the slightest possibility of being seen as bigots or isolationists, enough that we can rather easily lose necessary practical focus, thereby making excuses for obvious and ridiculous behavioral patterns that would otherwise be noted and called to task. All "Marked For Death" does (effectively) is to peel away this unrealistic layer of paranoid self-censorship, and show some rather harsh realities regarding Islamic ideology, followed by mountains of inarguable evidence, precedence, and detailed Qur'anic study. Mr. Wilder's message is effectively marginalized by the west because of our fantastical appeal to ignore reality in favor of "cultural sensitivity", and that is just not acceptable anymore. I'd even suggest it's a dangerous credo to continue entertaining in our society. And here's an interesting fact; when excessive zealotry towards culturally pluralistic illusions is properly analyzed, it actually shows a distinct pattern. It shows a progressive denial of some important logical perceptions (reason, perspective, co-relation to causation, probability, e.t.c...). It's enough that it mimics all the hallmarks of pathological delusional behavior. To conclude, this book is well written and illuminates some very obvious negative results, esoteric principles of radicalized Islam that will always lead Moslem fanatics to exhibit barbaric and contrary actions. Read objectively, you will find nothing within the pages of this book that is unqualified, and most of the details are based upon an enormous quantity of relate-able evidence. Marked For Death is 100% worth the purchase along with hours of study.

Politically incorrect but a vital warning to the West
The premise of "Marked for Death: Islam's War Against the West and Me" by Geert Wilders is that Europe is under rapid Islamization, a process that must be curtailed in order to preserve the indigenous European culture**. The swift rise in the arrival of Muslim immigrants, compounded by their high birth rate, a minuscule rate of assimilation, and the push for Sharia Law, is a pathway to the demise of the historical, traditional, and liberal European society. It's ironic, as he notes, that the liberal and open ritual on the Continent is the practice that encourages Islamization. Cultural relativism is finally catching up with many center-to-left politicians, and Wilders emphasizes that even some critical leaders in Europe finally professed the failure of multiculturalism, including Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron and France's President Nicholas Sarkozy. (Note: The latter, of course, was recently voted out of office by a margin that was much smaller than the total Muslim vote, over 90% of which was cast for socialist victor Francois Hollande).Geert Wilders is a brilliant, brave, and outspoken 48-year old individual. That his birthday is precisely 20 years to the day after my own (September 6, 1963) has nothing to do with it. For several years, he and his wife have been under heavy guard on a 24/7 basis, being forced to move continually from place to place, typically dwelling in military housing, schools, and even prisons. He spends considerable time examining the history of Islam, discussing the life of Mohammed; the Koran's ideology; major wars, conquests and "infidel" extermination; the torment of women under Sharia law; promotion of slavery (which, as explained, continues today); taxation and the related intimidation of non-Muslims; the factors that have promoted the economic backwardness of many Islamic societies (at least those not blessed today by huge petroleum reserves); the secularization of Turkey by Mustafa Ataturk; the Palestinian/Israeli conflict (including the "right of return"); and the sordid background (up to and including the present) of Egypt's al-Azhar University which President Obama declared, on his 2009 trip to Cairo, "a treasure and beacon of learning!"Wilders describes also the challenging and fearful existence to this day of Kurt Westergaard since this Danish cartoonist published in 2005 his unflattering drawings of Mohammed, sparking mortal global violence by Muslims. Then he goes on to tell about Jytee Klausen's 2009 book The Cartoons That Shook the World (published by Yale University Press). This publication house (which, of course, is associated with one of the most well known and liberal US colleges) refused to allow the reproduction in the printed manuscript of the cartoons themselves! Talk about political correctness run amuck.Wilders produced the documentary film Fitna, and, prior to its release in early 2008, it was condemned by a broad swatch of multiculturalists and other critics, and was proclaimed "a threat to Dutch society." (Note: fitna is an Arabic word that is akin to "uprising.") Corporate executives vilified Wilders and lobbied for the film's prohibition, mentioning, among other items, that a global boycott of Dutch products could ensue. Several Muslim-dominated countries prohibited its showing on the internet via YouTube on the threat of banning the video site altogether. However, Fitna was shown on the internet via liveleak.com and remains available for viewing. It quotes liberally from the Koran and reproduces many scenes from terrorist activities, Islamist speeches from religious leaders, abhorrent hate teachings to children, pronouncements from "respected" Muslim politicians. It is only 15 minutes in length and can be seen at: [...]Other parts of the book range from the description of the ruthless, gruesome, and ugly killing of film-maker Theo Van Gogh (by Mohammed Bouyeri, aka Mohammed B) to, separately, the reasons Wilders staunchly opposes Turkey's bid for full membership in the European Union.Wilders traces his rise to political power, despite constant pushback from the more liberal elements of the political spectrum. The group which he leads, the Partij voor de Vrijheid (Party for Freedom or PVV), now is the #3 ranking party in the Dutch House of Representatives, and is a key element of the ruling coalition.Mr. Wilders too has both a sense of humor and wittily sarcastic approach. On a 2009 visit to Rome to receive the Oriana Fallaci Free Speech Award, the heavily guarded Dutch Parliamentarian had to "relieve himself," and was accompanied to the gents' room by over 30 policemen. He called the experience "the best protected pee of my life." Moreover, with his sarcasm complemented by a touch of irony, he describes how he (1) had been turned away from a visit to Britain (2009) in order to keep the peace, and (2) was exonerated in a hate-speech proceeding in Holland (2011) in a trial that occurred only when a Dutch Appeals Court reversed the decision of Amsterdam's Public Prosecutor that there was insufficient evidence for an indictment. In summary, Wilders' book is educational, insightful, and even entertaining. His tell-it-like-it-is approach and disaffection of both cultural relativism and political correctness is a major contribution to bolstering our comprehension of the Islamic infiltration and terror that continue to plague the world today. I strongly recommend your reading this outstanding tome.**Warning: This book may not be ideal reading matter for liberal multiculturalists!

Wilders speaks the truth
Geert Wilders is the leader of the Party For Freedom (PVV), the third largest political party in the Netherlands. He is under constant security protection since he started speaking the truth about the threat of Islam. His outspokenness has "marked him for death", just as Salmon Rushdie was for writing "The Satanic Verses." Wilders takes care to distinguish between Muslims and Islam. His issue is not with Muslims but with Islam, which, he points out, is not just another religion but a political ideology which aims to dominate the world. While he recognizes that many Muslim immigrants may desire to live the good life offered by the democratic countries to which they move, Islam and the Quran teach that this would be contrary to their teaching. We can see the evidence of this in honour killings, an example of which took place in June 2009 in Kingston, Ontario.Mr. Wilders is well-read, travels much and provides solid historical support for his views. He is not the first outspoken critic to be exposed to death threats. Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh and politician Pim Fortuyn were assassinated by extremists for their views, and former Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali moved to the U.S. after being threatened for speaking out about Islam. Wilders' book is a must read for anyone who wants to know about the threat of Islam to democratic countries. A bonus is the foreword by author and columnist Mark Steyn (America Alone, After America) who has had his own experiences with Islamic clergy who tried to silence him and MacLean's Magazine in the British Columbia Human Rights Commission. While they did win, it was costly victory and put a chill on free speech in Canada.

No Day to be an Ostrich
This is no time to be an ostrich, hiding our heads in the sand, and deceiving ourselves into thinking that if we ignore it, it will go away. There is a real and present danger out there, and we need to be aware of those dangers. This is a "must read" book, for everyone who wants to know what is really happening in the Western world with regard to the encroachment of Islamism on our freedom of speech, freedom of the Press, and our general freedoms to live our lives as we see fit, and not according to the laws of some totalitarian ideology.Geert Widers has not been able to live a normal life for a number of years because of death threats, because he speaks out about this subject, and will not be silenced. If only there were thousands more like him, but the Western media have become limp-wristed, politically correct, sycophantic cowards, and you will not hear the truth from them.Mr. Wilders is a man of courage, and his book is an act of courage, sadly lacking in those whose highest duty is to look out for their citizens, but who seem to be doing the reverse, by appeasing those who desire our destruction. I highly recommend it.
