Chocolate Tree - Theobroma cacao - 6" Pot - Fruit of the Gods

The tree was about 2ft and brilliantly packaged for shipping and in less than a week has new growth. Far as I know cacao trees are hermaphroditic so don't believe you need more than one you just need gnat type insects in your area that will pollinate the flowers so that it will actually fruit. I am gonna gamble and let some bananas rot on the ground when the tree flowers in hope that any old gnat might to the job, but I have also heard using one cotton swab gently brushed in a number of flowers will work which will be plan b. However I think it takes 2-3yrs for it to yield and you will kick yourself THEN if you didnt get more than one NOW because it will be many years before just one tree bears "enough" to supply enough for self sufficient raw chocolate needs. You need a male and female tree, 2 genetically different trees to make cacao pods. They send you one tree. Just a heads up. It needs VERY high humidity too or else it will wilt badly

It survived the summer, but then died in the winter

This is my second time buying this type of tree (accidentally brought my first one outside too early). Both times my cocoa trees came in phenomenal condition and have thrived - just be sure to keep them warm because they can't tolerate even a little cold. Thankfully, sun isn't as much of an issue, in fact, they seem to prefer less sun compared to other plants!

This was the most wonderful order I have made this season. Chocolate trees are rather expensive, and this one was very reasonably priced.. But it gets better- the tree I purchased was both very healthy and surprisingly well developed- comparable trees elsewhere would cost you over $50 from many distributors. I am most delighted with my new Theo, and look forward to watching it grow :)

What can I say about this tree. I was waiting a lot of time to get a Theobroma cacao tree and now I have it. It arrived on time, in excellent conditions and I have almost two weeks with it and it has new leaves. Surely I will buy another one, mi brother want it too.

My boyfriend was obsessed with this birthday gift. He won't let me anywhere near it! A year later and the tree is HUGE and healthy and we're both so happy with it. Keeping this thing growing in Arizona is a testament to the original grower. I will definitely be buying more from this grower in the future.
