Great for Young Readers
I bought this book for my son who was having a hard time transitioning to true chapter books! We first started with graphic novels then found this gem, and he’s been reading chapter books ever since. He actually loved this book so much we have purchased several other books from this series. They’re also perfect reads for any kids doing Accelerated Reader (AR) at school.

Gets my daughter excited to read
My 9 year old is a great reader, but she doesn’t love reading. When given the choice of activities, she’d never choose to read—that is, until we got her this book! She is asking to read when we put her to bed, taking it to school, telling us the exciting parts she’s just read. As a mom and a teacher, I am SO glad she’s found something that she loves to read. We will be purchasing more of these books!

Great book!
I bought this book through Amazon when I saw an elementary boy reading it. I really like the book! It's fast and easy to read, and based on (and includes) real happenings. There are two more books in the series, too, which I am also getting: "I survived the sinking of the Titanic," and "I survived Hurricane Katrina."In this book Chet is living with his uncle in a new town, and going to a new school. He feels alone and unloved. He starts to feel accepted by a group of boys until they play a prank on him. That really hurts, but his uncle tells him that that is the way of boys: They play a prank on you, so now you play one back on them to show you're ready to be friends! Chet does, but it backfires; they can't handle it and stop playing with him.Frustrated, Chet goes to their swimming hole to clean it up. Then he sees (and is almost grabbed) by a shark. However, no one believes him when he goes running into town--except one old captain. The formerly friendly boys joke about it, even "tempting" the shark--which they don't believe is real--by jumping in the creek. But...then guess who comes along, and guess who rescues the boys! The pictures in this book are absolutely well-drawn as well.

Top pick for young reader
My 8 year daughter loved this book and this series. Great for 3rd grade reading level and up and for those kiddos looking for a thrilling book to hold their attention.
