Very Useful Guide
This book is very easy to follow and includes many good working session resources for later use. I highly recommend it as a resource for not only behavioral science principles, but also for leading successful workshops on the topic.

One nudge at a time...
As a habitual list maker, with the incessant desire to do new things or old things with new approaches and set myself lofty goals for self-improvement, I constantly fall short of my personal expectations--both professionally and personally. From keeping my meeting and project notes better organized and accessible to streamlining my email inbox, or alternatively just sticking to a manageable fitness routine to stay healthy and allow for the occasional dessert indulgence. This book brought to life what I have not so secretly known for years, that I am wired a certain way, and that sweeping changes are almost impossible because I (we) are built to resist. There is no antidote to this, but "Why we resist" helps guide you through why you do things the way you do and how to push through the hurdles to bring about the changes you need to make--sometimes just one nudge at a time. The engaging graphics and interactive worksheets, supported by highly credible research, provide the perfect formula for anyone to enjoy and benefit from. I read it in hardcopy, which is definitely preferable for completing the worksheets or tagging with post-its so that I can easily go back at a later stage for further scrutiny. While many of the case studies/examples are healthcare-related, this field guide is applicable across any profession or those facing transitions in their lives.

Required Reading
Why We Resist is an extremely insightful look at the world of decision making in healthcare. As a healthcare-marketing veteran for almost two decades, I found that this book uncovers and highlights key influences that hold us back from truly impacting changes to improve health outcomes. With a strong behavioral science foundation, engaging exercises and illuminating case studies Starr and Householder provide a roadmap to understanding the healthcare decision-making landscape and ways to drive changes that matter. This should be required for anyone working in the healthcare space, including physicians, nurses, marketers, access professionals.

Understanding the Motivation Impacts Change
Why We Resist...I couldn't resist the title! Human nature is to resist what we may not understand, why we choose new paths, why we make New Year resolutions only to break them a few months later, why we join a gym or change our diet and most times never follow through, even when we know we should! Why We Resist, dives into the truths about motivating behavior change, and provides easy to use tools through the lens of 9 Principles of Influence , to find balance in communicating the right mix and relevance to interrupt the barriers of change...

Must Read for Marketers
Quote with greatest impact: "The message isn’t enough. No matter how compelling the science, how clear the benefit, it’s not enough if you don’t understand the person. What motivates them. What gives them hope. That’s what opens doors and keeps them open for the hard conversations, new understandings, and big commitments to change." How people make decisions routinely ignored in Life Sciences. Too important to ignore. I was writing its concepts into my GTM plan as I read it. Very practical guide.

Enjoyable, thoughtful and relevant - an unusual trifecta!
Having read more than my fair share of books on changing behavior in healthcare, particularly among patients, this book really struck a chord. The content is accessible, understandable and easily applicable to various business challenges - because isn't everything, at the end of the day, about behavior in some form or another? Highly recommend this read for a variety of professionals - from healthcare providers to organizational consultants to healthcare executives.
