Extensive information
I selected "The New Father: A Dad's Guide to The Toddler Years, 12-36 Months" by Armin A. Brott with a family member in mind. His first son is almost 2 so he's in the middle of his toddler-hood. With a new baby and an almost 2-year-old, he and his wife have quite a bit going on so I thought he might find this book useful for him.As a reference book, he found it insightful and extensive. There are some issues that he is experiencing now with his toddler so he liked that it helped explained why his son was doing some of things he was doing and the advice on how to handle it. He really liked the advice on financial planning because it can get so involved that it is easy to set aside for 'later' and suddenly later is now. The thing he appreciated most was that it covered a wide range of topics and scenarios. Perhaps some won't apply to him (ex: Deployment because he's not in the military) but he likes that it is there. In his opinion, it is a good guide to have in the house. As noted, perhaps not everything will be pertinent but you never know when it might be.

Huge fan of the series.
I actually really like this book (I’m a mom) and love the fact that my husband has read the one before this and now this one as well.To me there’s no reason to skip ahead to what a 2 year old is doing when I have a 17mo so I read it in sections & the book is designed just for that. You can read whatever you’re looking for regarding that age period and then come back once your child has aged.It gives you developmental milestones to look for, tips and just interesting tidbits of information. While I have a book designed for “moms” I find myself going to this one simply because it’s easy to get the information where I need it.Both me and my husband find this to be a great resource as we have zero idea what we’re doing. ;)

Excellent series geared for dads in an easy-to-use format!
Planning ahead, I got this for my son! They’re in the talking-about-it stage & he’s a researcher who totally appreciates the ability to zero in on a situation or question or age - whatever issue you’re wondering about or question you need answered is easy to find. The pages have an appealing layout, mixing lists & bullet points & eye-catching graphics with an occasional cartoon while maintaining its novel-type format. The ages of 1-3 years are so full of nonstop changes & challenges & this book is a great reference source geared to dads, much like the What To Expect When You’re Expecting series was for moms when I was having kids.My husband picked it up & wondered aloud why there wasn’t this around back in his day! But, thankfully, there is now for our son.(Thanks for reading this & hope it’s Helpful!)

Nothing earth shattering but a solid parenting book
The New Father a Dad’s Guide to the toddler years showcases what dad’s can expect from their toddler as their development skyrockets. From verbal to physical to specific situations this is an all-encompassing book that focuses on practical advice for dads. While kids don’t come with an instruction manual this is a close second. As others noted there is nothing in here that is groundbreaking but for overwhelmed dads this can be a nice way to organize thoughts. It touches on a little bit of everything that one should think about when becoming a parent including relationship, financial and insurance suggestions as well as all the things your toddler will be going through.

Good information, questionable advice
The great thing about this book is that it explains so well, so extensively what is going on with the toddler and what to expect. What I don't like is all the parenting advice. I got this as a gift for a new parent. As a parent that has been through the trenches (so to speak) a few times, what works for one child will not work for the next. Reading a parenting book and following advice usually doesn't lead to improvement. It would be better if these books would present their opinions as opinions, as in "here's some things that may work ..." rather than presenting their opinions as the "right" way.

Solid practical advice
My wife did a lot of reading that helped her through maternity and I picked this up in an effort to give myself the same type of “advantage” now that we’re heading into year one with our baby. The author presents the facts and not his opinions. I found that to be refreshing as it shows that not even the author with three kids tries to assume they’ve seen it all. Milestones are represented as your child should be coming up on this, not panic if your child doesn’t do exactly this. It is filled with great ideas from communicating with your partner to different types of play to do with your child. He does add some humor through out, but doesn’t become a comedian.
