Great Product and helps zero a scope really quickly!
I purchased this item recently and it arrived quickly and packaged accordingly and simple. It did not have have any variation on the laser light it self as I placed the batteries in it and then capped it and it came on and placed it on the table and rolled it around and the light stayed very centered. I used on several Mosin Nagant rifles which I have customized and used rifle scopes to use instead of iron sights and quickly obtained a dead center boresight and scope alignment. The red dot is very bright and I would recommend that you start on an object that is white or dark to see the sight then bring it up to the preset aiming point as a guide.I will say that the batteries did not drain quickly, they do turn on the laser quickly. I did; however, chamber the round and closed the bolt without turning it down to keep it in the chamber as I did the line of sight and scope cross hair adjustments. I can say this for this product that it would recommend it over any outside the barrel boresighter as it is much more precise as those may have a hugh variation and can and will offset the line of sight and the actual path of the bullet to point of impact. I set my scope at 25 yards or 75 feet for initial point of aim and able to then make the necessary shot as they are further out if need be. WIth 7.62 x 54R you will reach out and touch someone. For the price its a good investment and the best way to obtain extra batteries which you may find in more dollar stores or Big Lots for cheap. It will help your shoulder and at the cost of ammo why not have one in your tool kit as it is clearly marked as 7.62 x 54R on the side.

Don't waste your money
I was skepticle about the other reviews about this product and bought it anyway. Big mistake. I would state the pros/cons but there aren't any pros aside from the the fact that it does fit in a rifle chambered at 7.62x54r. The concept for this boresight is that you install the 3 included LR41 batteries and screw the end cap over them. Once the cap is fully tightened the laser is supposed to turn on. This however is not the case. For the laser to turn on, the batteries have to contact each other and the inner wall of the unit to close the circuit. The product falls short in this endeavor because the diameter of the inner casing is about .12mm too big, therefore the batteries cant complete the circuit properly and any little bump will turn the laser off. I've tried everything to get the unit to work and it still wont work. Just don't waste your money on this one. Some might say that you get what you pay for...but not for this one. Honestly, I wouldn't even pay $3 for it.UPDATE***I was tinkering around with the unit the other day and I found out how to fix the battery contact issue. If you have the batteries seated in the unit like the instructions tell you, the laser either flickers on and off at the slightest bump, the batteries drain extremely quickly, or it doesnt turn on at all. However, if you stack the bottom 2 batteries normally and hace the last battery on its side instead of face down, then the laser will turn on. In order to screw on the end cap all you need to do is pull off the end cap spring and follower. When you screw on the end cap make the that the battery that is sitting on its side stays that way. This can be a little tricky so don't worry if it takes you a few tries to get it. Once the cap is screwed down tight, the laser will stay on even if you drop it on a hard surface.I changed my rating to 2 stars because after I did this, I was able to sight my rifle in properly. The manufacturers of this product really need to work out the kinks or at least provide better instructions as to how to operate the product or troubleshoot it in the event of a minor malfunction. That fact that I had to go through all this trouble to get it to work, especially since it was purchased brand new, is unacceptable.

Not perfect, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price point.
Is it perfectly accurate? No.Does it compare to a much better made, but more expensive product? No.Does it get me on paper at 100 yards?Yes.Has it saved me money as compared to walking in shots from an unsighted optic?Possibly. This was not purchased for that, however. this was purchased to save time.My rifle in itself isn't a tack driver by any means, any stacked shots at 100 yards on a five-round test are going to rely somewhat on chance. This is to be expected with a rearsenaled wartime surplus. This sighter got me on paper, however, and allowed me to find that acceptable 100-yard zero much quicker than it did a buddy of mine with his M39, a tack driver of a rifle. It sports no on/off function, if the batteries are in, it's on, if they're not, it's off. Don't expect your batteries to last a lifetime, either. With the included batteries, I got around 10 minutes of reasonably visible illumination, 15 minutes of usable projection. With a pack of Energizer IB-RJ2X-SQF5 392/384 Multi-Drain Battery SR41 Replaces LR41, 5 Pack , I got around 15 minutes of visible, 20 minutes of usable, be sure to pick up additional batteries if you'll be needing them.
