This album was one of the best and well rounded compilations I've ever listened to and a good way to start off a Daptone collection

Discovered Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings at the 2009 Green River Festival - awesome! This CD contains songs from them and other Dap-Tone artists. All great. I also liked the gospel sounds of Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens, too.

This is what good music sounds like. In an age of autotuned, synthetic, discofied, mindless dreck, Daptone shows the world the meaning of soul.

Solid soul and funk. They are the end all, be all of what I am looking for in music. Fantastic!

I have loved every song I have heard from this label and this album is no exception.

I bought this album for my boyfriend as a stocking filler for christmas. we are a young couple who loves that whole funk/soul/jazz/blues type of music which is very hard to find these days since dub and lady gaga has taken over the music scene.This is for old souls who enjoy listening to something a bit different to repetitive pop and diva wannabes competing with each other to get to number 1. This album has alot of character and soul.It has a whole range of earthy beats. The Budos band are amazing as is Charles Bradley. it is the type of music you would enjoy if you had a long journey in your car, turn up the volume and be transported to another world of lush sounds that fuse modern muscians and old bluesy instruments beautifully. Track 8 is my boyfriend's favourite and I would have to agree as it has this awesome feel good beat to it that runs through your body like an electrical current and you can't resist having a bit of dance and a smile to.I really do recommend this album to anyone who loves soulful sounds that reminds them of the old music of howlin wolf, etta James, BB King and Muddy waters.

An excellent compilation of tracks from Daptone records. The album is brimming with great tracks from artists many of whom are not well known, but all of whom are so talented.The only downside is that you will not be able to resist buying up the back catalogue of most of those featured. If that was Daptone’s plan, boy did it work with me.

A truly wonderful fantastic amazing album, if you're into soul as it should be, this is for you - takes me back to my first clubbing nights, & forwards to new artists (to me) to enjoy.

If you like funky bass lines, and a certain `southern soul' sound, you'll like this compilation; this CD is remarkable, in that each track is so good, when compared to the next. A worthwhile purchase for any fan of funk or soul.
